over the State aforesaid :
W IEREAS, information has been re.
ceived at this Departinert, that an
assault and battery with intent to commit
another act of violence, was committed on
the body of Margaret Al. Bell, on the night
of the 20th January last, by a negro man
named AARON, the property of Samuel
'N. Atkinson of Darlington District, and
that said Aaron may be brought to trial for
his ofTence as aforesaid, I, Jons L. IAN
NiNG, Governor and Commander-in-chief in
and over the State aforesaid, do issue thiu
my proclamation, offering a reward of 'rvo
Hundred Dollars for his apprehension and
delivery into any Jail in the State.
Said Aaron is about 5 feet high, dark
complexion, and about 25 years of age.
Given under my hand and the seal of the
State, at Columbia, 24th June, 1853.

RUNAWAY, on last Tuesday the
17th instant, my Boy RICHAR D, a
white mulatto, about five feet three
or f6ur inches high, tolerably stout built,
about twen two years old with straight
light colored hair, has a very sulky ap
pearance, and answers quick and short
when spohkcn to; said boy has a short thick
foot, hias h'indshort and thick, chubby
fingers. He had the ecar o: -blisteraa
his forehead just above iha eye- brows, lie
may try to hide it by weariii lhis can or
hat down over hii foreheadl. He wih ht
sure to pass himself fur a White man for
he is very white atid has been taking great
care of his skin for soine thic. Whien lie
left lie had a cloth cap, black coat and a
dark colored pair of pants. Ile will he
sure to change his cap and clothes as soon
as he can; lie also wears his hair in front
strai.;ht down to hide the scar of the blis
ter. le is a sihoeiiaker by trade, though
lie mijay not go at tle businr:ss, expecting
that lie will he so advertised.
The above .reward ot Twenty Doilars
will tie paid for his tre!ivery in any Jail in
the State. lie will he sure to give himself
