Haw ( Advertla. , A writer in the New York Eve ning Mail on the science of advertis ing says : "As the object of advertis ing is to inform the greatest number of people in the mt effective manner, this end is best attuned by announce ments in the columns of the press. There are other methods of advertising, and novel ideas spring up every day, but such are for the moment only ; and the experience of all first-class and successful houses induces them to do their advertising in the newspapers, and there alone. Next comes the question as to what is the best method of securing the attention of newspa per readers. It is very simple and consists in continuous advertising. The retail merchants err when they insert a large advertisement for one time only, permitting weeks to pass before tlie order is repeated. Such fitful, spasmodic announcementsdoulit less produce a certain effect, but it is the steady, constant advertiser who prospers ia the end. The best way is to advertise liberal and continuously, and all who have sufficient courage and capital to invest without stint, have found themselvea rewarded even oeyotid their expectations. The secret of success lies in uninterrupted advertising on a small scale, varied by occasional spreads on suitable occasions. Every paper has its regular readers, and the continued advertise ments familiarise them with the name and object of the firm. Moreover, the inteieau of firm and jwper become united; the reader, who buys the paper because he likes it, looks at the .itle of the house day after day, and in tiiae comes to like the name. When an extra announcement is msde, he reads the advertisement through with attention, as the utter ance of a familiar friend, and gives attention and consideration to the matter discul ? " .
