Sin With some difficulty I hae got from hospi
tal surgeons sufficient data wherewith to found an
estimate of the value of the "Still Catawba " wine
of Mr Long worth as an artel e of hospital stores.
It seems to be especially valuable as a tonic and
stimulant In the stage Of convalescence from acute
disease It Is generally acceptable to the stomach,
and Its acidulous quality renders It gratoful to the
palate
The "Sparkling Catawba" shares with other true
sparkling wince the characteristic of agreeing well
with the stomach.

Dear Sir t In answer to your note, I will say 1
very much prefer the Catawba wine to any other
alcoholic stimulant In Typhoid fever. TheAdd Is
very acceptable to fever patients I always dilute
It with water) two of three parts of water to one
of wine, and add white sugar to the taste of the
patient, I have, used It in many eases of consump

usual, and less disposition to dlarrhcM (atheist

from erery mother and every female cod torn

to many of the oldest, wealthiest and most re
jetable familitt in New York, and evidence

Finn Atekps Hotel,
New YonK, February 23, lbG3,
Dk. Drake Dear Bin Your truly delicious
and valuable Plantation Bitters were first
brought to my notlctf by an old negro woman,
(cook in the house where I was nursing at tho
time,) who had escaped from one of tho large
plantations of the South during tho present un
hnppy war, and who, tn her own peculiar way,'
told such wonderful stories of their strengthen
ing powers; how her old "missus" used them,
ic, that I was induced to giro them a trial.
and I must say, with the most gratifying re
sults. For tho last twelvemonth I have nursed no
less than nine ladles through confinement (two
of them having twins ) In every case I have
used your Blddirs, nnd they have not failed, la
a ilngU instance to rrodueo tho dcelred effect
The) seem to strengthen and build up the most
aiocate conttttulions as If by magic, glvo tone to
the stomach, and crcite a healthy nnd moder
ate appetite, wbleh Is so Important for the
early reeovcrj of tho mother, as well as the
health and strength of the little ttranger. Thej
stimulate not too much or too little. The
abundance of anise which accma to enter Into
thglr composition Is sure to strengthen the
muiclet, and to give an early and efficient Jlow
oj tmiK to the mother, which effect a ally pre
venls ague in tho breast. They are a prevent
ive of langour, dlutneu and nautea of tha stom
ach, and in every respect are a superior tonic
of real worth and merit, and one that no lady
should bo without, especially those about to
ttcome mothert, I am now attending a lady at
this hotel who has been confined as yet but
thru dayt, still, under the soothing effects of
tho Plantation flitters, she Is fast recovering)
heretofore she has been obliged to keep her
bod for weeks. Herself and husband hid me
say that they shall take every possible occasion
to recommend your Bitters.
I have often used Callsaya bark and wine
with somo Utile satisfaction; but your combl
nation of Callsaya bark, fit Croix rum, laven
dcr flowers, and other lngredlenta, never fall
to produce full nud the most satisfactory re
sults
In conclusion, allow mo lo say that I have
acted la tho capacity of nurse for thirty years,
and nave attended hundreds ofladios. many of
tli cm of tho very first families of this city, but
daring ell my experience have never been so
fav orably impress ed wHh the really good quall-
ttee of any medicine as I have been with our
Bitters, aud without hesitation 1 cheeffutly
recommend them lo all families. You aro al
liberty to make snch use of this letter as you
may think fit.
Truly jours,
Born eon li Bowers,
