Inasmuch as tbe Qorernment of tbe United States la desirous to arreat tbe effa-f elou of blood between tbe Indian tribes within Ita jurisdiction hitherto at war with each other, tbe Yank tonal band of Dakota or Bioax Indians, rep resented in council, anxlons to rerpect tbe wishes of the OoTernment, hereby agree to discontinue for tbe future alt attacks upon tbe persons or prop erty of other trlbee, unlesa first attacked by tbem, and to use tbelr Influence to promote peace every where la the region oeoapled or frequented by them. All conferences or differences arising between tbe Tanktonat band of Dakota or Sioox Indiana, represented la council, and other tribes of Indiana, Involving the question of peace or war, shall be submitted for tbe arbitrament of the President, or suet person or persons ae mey be designated by him, and the decision or award shall be faithfully observed by tbe said band represented In council. Abticlb Fifth, Should any individual or lndl vlduale, or portion of the band of the Vanktonal bend of Dakota or Sioux Indiana represented In eouaot), desire hereafter to locate permanently upon any land claimed by said band for tbe pur poses of agricultural or other similar pursuits, it Is hereby agreed by tbe parties to to this treaty that such Individ aali shall be protected In auch lo cation against any annoyance or molestation on tbe part of whites or Indiana, and whenever twenty lodgea or families of the Vanktonal band aball have located on landa for agricultural purposes, and sig nified the tame to their agents or superintendent, they, as well aa other families ao locating, aball re eelra tbe sum of twenty-five dollars annually, for fire yean, for each family, la agricultural imple ment and improvements, and when one hundred lodges or families aball have ao engaged in agricul tural pursuits, they aball be entitled to a farmer and blacksmith at the expense of tbe Government, aa also teachers, at tbe option of tbe Secretary of tbe Interior, whenever deemed necessary.
