KELLOGG'S CASE. flie Ioiifinna SeiintorfIi!i Course of Senators Hill ami Joiium. Senators Hill and Jonas are still acting as the agents orex-Pecrelary Boutwell to further his plan ior ousting Democratic Senators when the next Congress meets. The memorial of Mr. Moore, brought into the Senate by Mr. Jonas and defended by Mr. Hill, goes to the very point at which Mr. i'totitwell aims asserting the power of the Senate not merely to seiutinize the action of a State Xegis Jitnrc, but to inquire into the manner in which & members of the Legislature, or any of them, were elected. Thus Moore's chiel point relied upon now by Mr. Hill and his Democratic allies for ousting Kellogg is the charge that three members of the Legislature which elected Kellogg Ftiiator were not themselves fairly elected, but were " returned by a process of repeating and by the casting oi 217 fraudulent ballots," fcc liepublican Senators are watching with amiable curiosity the arguments made by Democrats for an inquiry by the Senate into the election of mem bers of a State Legislature. They are wondering how Mr. George, Senator-elect, so called, of Missis sippi, is going to get into the Senate, or how long he will stay in if Mr. Hill and other sapient Dem ocratic Senators demonstrate that the Senate may overhaul the records of a State election, and one held four years ago at flint. And Mr. George, of Mississippi, is -not the onlj; Democrat who will, on Mr. Hilfs argument, find it n troublesome matter hereafter to get his scat in the Senate, or keep it after hehasgotin. Washington OomspGndcnceSeic Yorilltmld. Dross Hi Coat-Tall. John Kelly informs the Western reporters that lie is out ot politics " for the present." That docs not sound like a message of reconciliation, lie speaks contemptuously of " Tilden and his clique," says the party is practically as solid as eer, and that there its nothing the matter with it ;ut a little "pettv jealousy." There has been a httle division in the ranks, " hut nothing that will amount to anything. There is butone Democratic Party in New York, and that one is the Tammany lrty." Mr. Kelly is in firet-class frame of mind to "reorganized." His coat-tail drags a full yard on the ground. JCae York Tribune. The Irony or Fate. . The Maine election for Governor is a curious l-1) of fate. In the Garcelon conspiracy Mr. I Iaisted was ons of the most rigid interpreters of tue law. Anv ballot which was not accurate in fjflhng was " fatally defective." His own election ior Governor is now defective in the same way. lie is missnamed and misspelled on ballots enougli to defeat his election, provided the Republican iiinvassers can be as mean and dishonest ns J misted was himself In the last election. WIin tlie Virclnian May Do.
