Louisiana Papers Revived .—We have received the Thibodaux, Sentinel edited and published at Thibodaux by Messrs. P. E. Lorio & Co., also the Bossier Banner, edited and published at Bellevue, by W. II. Scanland , Esq. Both these journals are well edited, and merit every encouragement and support, for which their proprietors have our best wishes. • — tSh Santa Anna comes out in a proclamation from his rauche at St. Thomas, against the French in Mexico. When he thought the French were going to have it all their own way over there, he declared in their favor, saying that his declaration was made in order to get a chance to see his sick wife in Mexico. Now that he considers Maximilian's tenure some* what "shaky," he adopts his facile patriotism to suit, as he doubtless con ceives, those coming events which may reinstate® him in power and self-ag grandizement. His {ate proclamation closes as fol lows : Compatriots! on this memorable 2d of December, 1862, I adopted as ' ray motto these words ; "Down with the Empire ! Lice the Republic ! lAhajorel el Iinperio ! Viva la Re publica /"] And now, from the for eign soil Upon which I am exiled, I repeat that motto with the same en thusiasm. Interesting Adventures of Jüdah P. Benjamin .—The World 's corres pondent gives an account of Judah P. , 13öj)jqmi/i's escape from the ruius of tbe Confederacy : He says Benjamin separated from Davis early iu May, near Washingtou, Georgia, for the purpose of making his way to Nassau and Havana, from some point on the Florida coast. He was to attend to some public business at these ports, and then join the President in trans mission, via Matamoras and Texas. He traveled directly south through öeorgia and Florida, on horseback, disguised as a fanner in search of lands, without exciting any attention, until he reached the lower side of the Peninsula of Florida. Ile was in formed that no boats could be found on the eastern coast, and went to the gulf shore, where after a month's delay, he succeeded M getting a ship's yawl boat and two men, who were willing to risk their lives upon the sea in it. The boat was äböut fifteen feet long in which they coasted the peninsula till they reached one of the keys of Florida Reef, where they succeeded in procuring a boat somewhat larger, in which they put to sea to cross the Gulf Stream, and fortunately arrived upon the banks, after a passage of eixfey boms. On the 10th of July, after an un successful attempt to reach Nassau, in which he was baffled by headwinds and heavy weather, he put back to Bereniese, and on Friday, the 14th, the sloop foundered thirty miles to the nearest land*. The vessel went down so rapidly that he, with the crew had barely time to jump into a skiff in tow of the sloop before she sunk. In this lioaf, with a light mast sail, and com pass, and only a provision of boiled rice, which the negroes had boiled for breakfast—in this leaky and over loaded boat, and having but one oar, they made for land, and as the weath er was calm and the vessel in sight, l)y dint of energetic skulking they reached the lighthouse, and in a ves sel from that point Benjamin reached Nassau and Havana. Iiis whole trip has occupied the best part of three months, out of which thirty days have been passed at sea, in miserable open boats. .©aT" A Virginian writes the follow ing as the reason why Gen. Lee made application to President Johnson for ix pardon : Had the General considered his own feelings alone, he would have died sooner than humble himself and a just cause by a seeming admission that it was wrong. His application was one more proof of his love for his country. There were thousands of high-toned young men in South, who meditated expatriation themselves and who, when asked why they did not seek for a pardon, replied, that, until Gen. Lee had done so, they would ■not. After a long struggle with hii inclinations, believing that these young men ought to bo spared to the country whose future they were so well qualified to adorn, and, by participa ting in the rights of citizenship, to guide and shape, the General had done violence to his own feelings, and oiade the repeat; Thé appointment of Secretary to Montana Territory has been tender ed to Gen.
