A S nake STORT .—The Cincinnati Com meroi&l says : A short time since there arrived at the Walnut street House, a mysterious looking individual, having as a part of his baggage, a large bor perforated with breathing holes and marked : "Beware of the snake—cer tain death," which was deposited for tho time with the rest of the baggage upon the floor of the office. Accidentally two of tho holes had been "knocked into One," and but a short time elapsed before one of tbe snakes, an infant anaconda about ten feet in length, iBSued from the box and rapidly crawled along the floor, the posses sion of which was yielded to it without any dispute on the part of the terrified guests, with whom chairs and benches were im mediately at a premium. The danger ap peared imminent—the exigency one with which only a true hero dared to grapple. Fortunately, just as a 'bus load of would be guests—if they dared to—turned away from the door at the frightful cry of "driva on," the needed hero was found in the per son of mine host, Crittenden, Who issued from the office with a huge cavalry saber! Courageously the gallant "Crit" attacked the monster, and with more than mytho logical energy quickly severed his snake ship's body into several separate and dis tinct parts, to the inexpressible disgust of the owner, who was seen anxiously inquir ing a few moments after, as to who had killed his $500 anaconda. The latest snake story is told, in good faith, by the Springfield, (Mass.) Repub lican, of a reptile recently found at Lee. It was nearly four feet in length, about the size of a man's finger, and shaped like a whip-lash; and on close examination the whole body was found to be composed of small warms about half an inch in length, with large heads and-semi-transparent bodies. On separating them into frag ments they would immediately reform into the snake shape and crawl slowly off. On« or two other similar snakes have recently been seen in that vicinity. It is hoped that they will remain there. fSF The new correspondent of the Lon don Tww calls the ladiea' parlor in tha MottmuhoMa* "efeuafatfof bonon,"
