The rental of the Unitarian Chareh at San Francisco for the present jear is 870,000. This beats Beecher'a 820,000. A roan in New Bedford has very nearly discovered perpetual motion. Tbe citizens of St. Paul are excited over discoveries of gold and Bilver bearing quartz in St. Louis county, Minnesota. Specimens assayed at the Philadelphia mint show a proportion of $25.68 of gold to 84.42 of silver. The Fenians are negotiating for the purchase of eight ocean steamers, and it is stated large quantities of arms have been purchased of the Govern ment by parties in their interèst. About 40,000 bushel» of corn and oats have reached Rome, Ga., for dis tribution among the needy in that sec tion of country. The gift is from th« Government, and Capt. Chas. A Dean, A. Q. D., is charged with its distribu tion. Eighty-five colored people, who had no perdaaneut employment in Wash ington, have been sent to Providence, Rhode Island, by the Bureau, where homes and labor have been provided for them. Female servants are in de mand there. The Post-Office Department haa is sued a circular, saying the penalties for carrying letters outside the mails will be rigidly enforced. When let ters are not enclosed in Government stamped envelopes, carried by other conveyances, they will subject the captain, owner, driver or other em ploye, to a fine of 8150 for each of fence. Tlie first practical case of punish ment in the army for miscegenation is that of Capt. E, G. Scranton. I2th II.
