A C däioüh V in*.— À curious vine, says the Nevada Trantcript, bas recently been found in #ome of the gardens in that *i cinity. It is » parasite, and readily at tache* itself to other plants. The vine is «bout half the size of an angle worm, is of a light color, and appears vory tender, but it is almost impossible to kiiï it. One of these Tines has fastened itself upon Judge Beiden'* potato tops, and it climbs from ono plant to another wUhout difficulty. If broken into pieces anP thrown upon the plants, it soon winds itself around tho «teins, insert» its feedera into the plant, and shoots ont» its tendrils in every direc tion, losing none of its vitality by the rough treatmont. We are informed that many vines of the same kind grow up along tho Yuba. However this may be, the creep ing parasite will ftirnish interesting study for the botauist. A similar vine, perhaps identical with the above, is of wide extended and fa miliar growth in the fields and forests of Louisiana. It was known in the days of our boyhood, and is yot, perhaps, as the ''love vine." _ A n E xecutioner W antkd .—Tho Havana papers contain a singular announcement lrom the office of the (Secretary of the Su preme Court, that for fifteen days propo sals wonld be received from person« of color for the position of public exooutioner —that offica being vacant. The successful candidate, if a free negro, will have a sal ary of $90 per month, and the usual hang man's fees; if a slave, ho must produce his master's permission to till the office, and must lodge at tho jail, with only half the wages. The Spanish mode of capital pun ishment is by the garrute, or strangulation. Tho victim is placed on a stool, in the cen tre of an elevated platform, about the usual height of the gallows among us; behind thu stool is a post, to which is affixed an iron collar with a screw; this collar is made to clasp the neck of the criminal, and drawn tighter by means of the screw, until life becomes extinct. One turn of it is generally enough, anil death is instanta neous. * -#. « A Western editor apologize» to his readers somewhat uft.er this fashion: ''We expect to bave a death ami a marriage to publish this week, but a violent storm preventod the wedding, and, the doctor having taken sick himself, the patient re covered, and we are accordingly cheated out of both." wot ten. r |MIK undersigned have renewed their A former Partnership, and wilt transact biwi neBs under the name of STEVENS i SKVMOUK, at their old stand, Not. sni, and Ï8 Common St., opposite th« City Hotel.
