wit Ii it that a monument is about to he
erected in Baltimore to the memory of ,
T homas Wildkt, the founder of the Inde- j
pendent Order of Odd Fellowship in thi»
country. Tbe Sun s»ya the work baa now
been fiuished, and all that ia wanting ia
the formal reception of it from the banda
of tbe buildera , and its dedication , whioh
ja appointed to take place on the 20th inst .
The monument is a very beautiful one,

on a very commanding point , being ut the ]

1» marble . Immediately above the batte Is
a marble block , facing the cardinal pointa
and in it has been placed tablets with In -
scriptions oneircled by a wreath ; on the
north side of the base are the words : The
north tablet bas the words —" Thia column ,
erected by the joint contributions of the
lodges , encampments, and individual
member * of the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows of the United State » of America ,
and Jurisdictions thereunto belonging ,
commemorates the founding of that ordor
in the city of Baltimore, on the SJ& th of
April , 1819, bjr T homas W ii.orv." All of
the tablets are encircled with a scroll
wreath, beautifully worked In the mafble.
Above these rises a single fluted column ,
of hoantiful proportions , and »pon itoomes
the cap . Horn Is sculptured the globe , the
Ihre» links—friendship, love and truth—
with other emblems of the order . The
whole Is surmounted by a full life statue
ol a fvmsle ropi lisent ing Charity, with two
infant *, to whom she is supposed to be ex -
ercising the greatest of the virtues—charity.
