obaurvo that measures are being takon' to
have the public cisterns in our city replen
ished with water-a precaution, the utility
of which is so apparent in view of the
possibility of fires.
New tin spouts wa notice in several
places havo been erected, leading into the
cisterns from the roofs of the houses most
contiguous to those reservoirs.
This is an enterprise which will bo ap
preciated by onr firemen and citizens
gonerally.
Tho public cistern» are an "institution"
which should always receive their -full
«hare of attention from the municipal au
thorities.

ous occasion to notice tho appointment o^
our fellow-townsman, C layton B. E vatt,
as City Surveyor. Wo take pleasure in
again adverting to the fact, and to rem hid
our citizens that Mr. E vatt is now pro
