Raymond of the New York Times, gets disgusted with Beecher's system of politics in the pulpit, and thus ex. preâsea it : The tntroductiön of religion Into the secular affairs is certainly in bad taste, favors of hypocrisy, besides being an infraction of one of the great com mandments of the sacred law, to re ally devout minds this infringement upon» the priestly functions has a strong order of cant. It becomes dis gusting, moreoTer, when ministers of the Gospel, unmindful of their sacred calling, make fhe pulpit the medium of foisting their peculiar views on po litical and ciirrent éecularities upon thfir hearers, instead of inculcating moral virtues and religious truths. W« are led to these remarks upon reading the report of a sermon deliv ered yésterday at Plymouth church, Brooklyö, by thé clergyman doing du ty there in place of Henry Ward Beecher, its pastor. Surely this preacher was altogether forgetful in his discpurse of the wise man's saying that "there is a time for all things." He not only was guilty of impropriety but impertinence. His opinion' res pecting the cause of the rebellion, the perfidy and slave-worshipping of poli ticians, the necessity of banging Jeff. DkvU aiid his prominent supporters, may or may not be considered sound, but in any case it was surely improper for him to cram his views down the throats of a congregation assembled to worship, to say nothing of the dis courtesy of the thing, when it is con sidered that the regular pastor of the chureh entertains diametrically oppo site views, at least respecting the stretching the necks of the rebel lead ers, and bas advocated clemency tow ard them by speech and pen, with con siderable persistence. Clergymen who go outside their calling as religious preachers, and set themselves up as oracles on political and purely sectional matters, will doubtless be popular among that class who are known by the itching ear ; tbey are sincere and fervent detractors from the dignity of their profession, wbose preaching is altogether in vain. God follows men ; Ho turns to them more than they to Him,
