Bt$r Tim Advocate lias been put iu possession of the following infor mation relative to the State Fair, which is highly commendable to the Commander of the Post at this place, in fostering the noble enterprise. It says : , The Louisiana State Fair Associa tion has revived a communication from tlie Military authorities, grant ing the use of the Garrison grounds for the »State Fair, in November. This kind compliance with the re quest of the Association will save great outlay and prevent the possi. bility of a failure, as the barrack rooms will serve as display rooms for the numerous smaller articles that will be 011 exhibition and enable the Association to dispense with the great expense consequent upon build ing sheds and exhibition rooms. The earnest thanks of the commu nity are due to Gen. Watkins for this great favor. A G entuîman . —Show me the man who can quit the brilliant so ciety of the young to listen to the kindly voice of age, who can hold cheerful conversation with one whom years has deprived of charms—show me the man who is willing to help the deformed who stands iu.need of help, as if the blush of Helen man tled her cheek—show me the man who would no more look rudely at the poorest than at the most ele gantly dressed lady in the saloon— show me the man who treats unpro tected maidenhood as ho would the heiress, surrounded by the power ful protection of rank, riches and family—show me the mail who ab hors the libertine's gibe, who shuns as a blasphemer, the traducer of his mother's sex ; who scorns, as lie would a coward, the ridicnler of woman's foibles, or the exposer of womanly reputation —show me the man wtio never forgets for an instant the delicacy, the respect that is due to woman, in any •condition or class, an4 you can show me a gentleman.
