Thk Ntw English Minister — There is

UriniM-nis of Itiu i<-, Head.
For the first time in the histor y of the
American government we have a candidate
presented for the distinguished office of
i resident, upon purely sectional grounds.
Ihc position oi Mr. Fiemont is purely a sec
tional one—his supporters arc found only in
a segment of the American confederacy
and his platform is unorganized and delib
erate crusade against a portion of the Ainer
ichn Union, and against the constitution of
the only free government on earth, under
which the country has enjoyed prosperity
unexampled in the history of the world.
t harge it upon them, fellow Democrats,
that that their course is calculated to de
stroy the fair fabric of free government, be
cause Fremont’s administration would not
have the men or the means to carry on the
government in the Southern States.
Charge it upon them, that Fremont would
have to fill the Federal offices in the South
ern Slates, with northern Abolitionists, for
men of the south would scorn his admiuis
tiou and the appointments in his gift, as
our revolutionary forefathers scorned the
government of King George and his offices.
Charge upon them, Democrats that the
northern Stales have no more right to dic
tate to and overrun the southern States
with appointments from the north, than the
British King had to impose stamp acts upon
the American colonies, and import officers
to enforce his odious dictation.
Charge upon them. Democrats, that on#
section of the Union has no rightt to force a
government upon another section—that the
declaration of Independence asserts, and the
constitution guarantees, the right of sclS
government to-nil—and that the south have
the right to govern themselves us well us the
north.
Charge upon them, Democrats, that the
election of Fremont by the North, would be
in violation of the compromises of the con
stitution, and that the south would be justi
fied iu governing themselves, by the forma
tion of a government as purely southern, us
that -*f F emont would be northern.
Charge upon them, Democrats that such
a course would bo DLSUMION, and that the
north wouild be the first to declare it by the
election of a northern man.
It is not impossible that the vote of Cali
fornia may decide the fate of the Union ; and
in the maintenance of that Union are cen
t -red the hopes of the lovers of freedom
throughout the world. It is utterly vain,
s»ys the Sam Francisco Herald, to deny that
with the election of Mr. Fremont, (dii av
KHTiTif omuc*) ends tha union of the States
To what deplorable results tbo disruption
will lead we dare not contemplate. We re
gard such an event as the greatest calumny
'bo Almighty has ever indicted on a nation
since tiic beginning of the world. Although
it js altogether probable that the great
States of New York, Pennsylvania and Illi
nois will decide the contest, it is- neverthe
less the iluty of the Democrats of California
to anticipate the possibility, however remote
it may be, that upon thiiiii may devolve the
momentous responsibility of deciding the
fate of the Union, and. as a consequence, of
republican government throughout the
world.
Plumas Cowry —We are assured by
those who have been there and bud ocular
proof, that the entire t'cket is sure of elec
tion in Plumas county. This is but » reit
•ration of what has over been affirmed of the
whole Northern part of the State by the
very best of authorities. Formerly a part
<>f old Butte, and ever working with her, we
feel confident that Plumas will act with us
now, and give an over whelming majority
for Buck and Breck at the coining election.
Th<* material, is there, and it needs but to
be brought to the polls to prove Iter as ever,
sound upon the gloriouspriuciples of Democ
racy. Men of Pi union! rally to Usa stand
ard of Buchanan, Ureoktmidge,, aiul the
Union.
