To-Day ia Thanksgiving. “Let all the world rejoice,” and “Earth receive her King.” Lot business be suspended —except the Printer’s— and all repair to Church and listen to the teachings of the Scripture;— and then repair to their respective homes and enjoy a roast turkey, if they have one ; if not, they should repair to the nearest restaurant, and while enjoying a lone and solitary laeal, resolve, be fore another Thanks giving day shall come upon them to exhibit their wretchedness, that they will have a. little house of their own, well-filled with the crea ture comforts of earth, and presided c ver by one who listens for your foot step, who opens the door and receives you with a smile, that relieves life of it - care, and banish the shadows that. I’it athwart your pathway,as darkness and ghosts, and goblins, disappear a- the cheerful lace of “Old Sol” peers over the mountain range, scat tering rays of light over gulch, val ley and ravine, and ushering in the yens norn. 1 here’s the cushioned chair, the cheerful grate, the neatly laid table, upon which smokes the savory turkey. The Angel who pre sides over your dwelling, wheels y< nr chair to the smoking side board, sweetens your tea —and gob blers di.-appear as rapidly from before you, as goblins from the approach of day. How delightful such a repa-t! And then to wheel from the board, and rest in the easy chair, watching her graceful motions as she flits around administering to comfort.— The shadows increase, and from the west window is presented the glorious \ iew of a Pacific sunset, with its soft mellow light walking noiselessly upon the mountains, and easting upon the feelings a spirit of hallowed peace aiid contentment. Over all nature steels the spirit of quiet and tran quility. Valley, torrent and hamlet retire from view, amid the evening twilight; away in the cast, upon the now-capped peaks of the Nevada, comes a “flood of rosy light, and then : deep bright crimson, like the ruby’s Hash or sapphire’s blaze, and a cir clet of {laming peaks stud the hori zon.” The light fades —but comes again, and a Hood of glory once more rolls along their summits. ’Tis the last struggle, and night closes upon the scene, 'fired nature seeks re pose and drawing the drapery of your couch around you, you lie down to — nore ! A Fight occurcd night before last at the dance house on the Pinza between two pros titntes. The combatants, a Spanish woman, and a frail daughter of the Krnernld Isle got into a dispute about who should hare the head of virc set, and the first thing “Biddy” knew, her Castillian opponent made a lunge at her throat with a big bowie-knife and by throwing up her hands managed to save her wind-pipe,but received a severe cut on her head and on one of her hands, No very se rious damage was done however, and had both their throats been cut. wo imagine the country would have still been safe. That dance house, and others of its kidney, are the barbaric relics of a custom that had its ori gin in the days of ’ ll* an I ’SO, when there was some excuse fur them, hut they ought to be dispensed with now-a-days. if*.. The Young Men's Democratic Club of San Francisco, lately adopted the follow ing resolution : Ucsolved, That the thanks of the Young Men’s Democratic Club be tendered to the Hon. Wm. W.
