TO EMPHASIZE THE EVENT LETTERS OF ADVICE FROM THE 8TATE SUPERINTENDENT HAVE BEEN RECEIVED AND WILL BE FOLLOWED MINUTELY. The centenary of Abraham Lincoln will be observed in an appropriate manner by the- children of the town ship schools of the county. Supt Jor dan has requested his teachers to em phasize as much as possible the spirit of patriotism as applied to the great men of the country and no name is regarded as more worthy than that of Lincoln.' State Supt Cotton has sent out circulars containing advice to the teachers and outlining a program for general use. The pamphlet contains a list of references upon the life of Lincoln, which will be of great as sistance to the school children in pre paring their manuscripts. A Study of Lincoln. In his pamphlet, Supt. .Cotton says the value of the program offered will be increased greatly if preceded by a study of Lincoln's character and life In the history class. In the eighth grade a week's study of some well known Lincoln authority. is offered as advisable. It is said such work would pat the pupils in the proper frame of i mind for the celebration by giving them the necessary background of in- t formation about Lincoln, and) at the Uame time it would strengthen great .; ly the history work in the period of - the civil war. Some of the strong men of to-day were sickly boys years ago. Many of them received Scott's Emulsion at their mother's knee. This had a power in ft that changed them from weak, delicate boys into strong, robust boys. It has the same power to-day. Boys and girls who are pale and weak get food and energy out of Scott's Emulsion. It makes children grow. New York A PARISIAN HAIR CUT. It la Expensive at Times, but Always a Sociable Affair. ' The Paris hairdresser cannot be per suaded to do anything more than pre tend to remove a little hair. It almost breaks his heart if yon insist on a serviceable cut. The price, charged Is sometimes a painful surprise to the unsuspecting visitor. He has been warned to avoid those establishments where the tariff Is not displayed and so does not hesi tate when he sees the announcement, "Hair Cutting, 1 Franc." When the operation is over, how ever, he Is a ltoHe hurt at being asked for 3 francs. If he knows enough French to un derstand, he gathers that 1 franc is for the hair cutting, 1 franc for a "fric tion" and 1 franc for "perfume." Frenchmen pay these charges with out complaining and seem to enjoy a visit to the barber's. As they gener ally go to the same shop and French men have their hair "cut" once a week the assistant becomes their confiden tial friend. His customers discuss with him their love affairs, their ailments and lastly their business. . ' He is also supposed to be a great au thority on horse racing, but he is too prudent to act on his own tips and generally manages to save enough money to start in business for himself. London MaH. No High Asking Prices Here i The Reductions Are Genuine Why is it you have such crowds and jams every time you advertise a sale? This question is asked us many times during the day. It is simply this The reductions are genuine. There is a saving on every purchase beyond a shadow of a doubt. It would not be so. if we had asking prices and taking prices. You would never know on what price you were getting the reduction, or if you were getting any reduction at all. ALWAYS TRADE WITH ONE-PRICE STORES. "' "" ' . ' ANATOMY. :-2 z Overdoing It m Little. Proceeding In a southerly direction from the torso, we have the hips, use ful for padding, and the legs. The legs hold up the body and are some times used in walking, but when rid ing tn automobiles they take up valu able space which otherwise might be employed to better advantage. Attached to the 'legs are the feet. Some varieties of feet are cold. Some people are born with cold feet, others acquire cold feet, and still others have cold feet thrust upon them. The surface of the body is covered with cuticle, ' which either hangs in graceful loops or is stretched tightly from bone to bone. On the face It Is known as complex- Ion and Is used extensively for com mercial purposes by dermatologists, painters and decorators. Between the cuticle and the bones are the muscles, which hold the bones together and prevent them from fall ing out and Uttering up the sidewalk as we walk along. Packed neatly and yet compactly in side the body are the heart, the liver and the lungs; also the gall, which in Americans is abnormally large. These organs are used occasionally by the people who own them, but their real purpose is to furnish sur geons a living. Thomas I. Masson in UPDlncott's. When the commissioners took the initial steps to start the investiga tion the council was asked to appro priate $2,000, but instead used the ofR. cial knife and cut the requisition in two. This action caused much unfavor able comment and charges were heard that politics was figuring in an effort to prevent a thorough Investigation. ' Then the commissioners left the mat ter of the plans for the investigation in the hands of a nonpartisan commit tee, which recommended that the coun cil appropriate more money, and this was done. ' The East Indian teacher who founded the cult known as "Babism" was "the Bab" MIrza All Mohammed. He was born in Shiraz, Persia, in the year 1820. He was trained at first to com mercial life, but a pilgrimage to M-a awakened in his heart the religious seal which made him devote his life henceforth to developing the faith which he held. Upon his return to his native city in 1844 he assumed the title of Bab, or "Gate" leading to the truth. In the eyes of the orthodox Mohammedans the tenets of the Bab were rank heresy, and he was taken to Tabriz and shot. New York Amer ican. ROSEN BLOOM, BUNTIN & CO.
