THE RICHMOND PALLADIUM AND SUN-TELEGRAM, SUNDAY, DECE31BEK in, 1909. BUSKIRK GETS A GREAT SEI1D OFF Former Indiana Attorney Gen eral Liked by Chris tian Scientists. SPEAKS IN EDDY TEMPLE HE GAVE A CLEAR EXPOSITION OF THE FAITH AND HIS RE MARKS WERE HEARD BY A VERY BIG AUDIENCE. ncord. N. H., Dec. 18. The beau tiful Christian Science temple, the home of First Church of Christ Scien tist, of this city, and a gift of Mary Baker Eddy to the Christian Science congregation of her home town, was well filled to listen to a lecture on Christian Science by Hon. Clarence A. Buskirk a former attorney general of Indiana, now a member of the Chris tian Science board of lectureship of the First Church of Christ Scientist, in Boston, Mass. The speaker gave a clear exposition of the teachings of Christian science and his words were given close atten tion. Judge James W. Remic, in introduc- fn the speaker, paid the following high tribute to Mrs. Eddy, the dis coverer and founder of Christian sci ence, and for a number of years a citi zen of Concord and to our fellow citi zen, Mr. Buskirk, formerly of Prince ton, Ind.: Remarks by Buskirk. "Ladies and Gentlemen: I am glad to stand here this evening In this beautiful temple, the gift of one of the world's most remarkable women, to the cause" to which she has devoted her life and in a sense to the city she loves, and standing here present a distinguished exponent of the relig ious philosophy known as Christian Science. "Whatever may be said for - or against this philosophy, it has been accepted by hosts of men and women of the highest character and Intelli gence and the sweetness of their lives is the best tribute to their religion. Certainly the ideal, that to be spiritu ally perfect is to be physically well cannot but make for a nobler human ity and a better and happier world. "We do not like to contemplate what the condition of society would be without the influence of the church iu the various forms in which it is appealing to the human heart; but from the church as an institution and from religion in its dogmatic as pect, we are ever turning to the noble and inspiring example of the Christ To think as He thought; to feel as He felt; to love as He loved; to pity as He pitied; to forgive as He forgave; in short to live as He lived; and if necessary to die as He died for truth and justice is the sum total of relig ion, and that church, whatever its name and whatever its teaching, which does the most in years to come to make men in thought and deed like the master will be the best church. "The gentleman who will address you is a distinguished member of the profession, to which 1 happen to be long. He was at one time attorney general of the great state of Indiana and it is with pleasure that I now present Hon. Clarence A. Buskirk." ALONE IN SAW MILL AT MID NIGHT unmindful of dampness, drafts, storms or cold, W. J. Atkins worked as Night Watchman, at Banner Springs, Tenn. Such exposure gave him a severe cold that settled on his lungs. At last he had to give up work. He tried many remedies but all failed till he used Dr. King's New Discovery. "After usin? one bottle" he writes, "I went back to work as well as ever." Severe Colds, stubborn Coughs, inflamed throats and sore lungs. Hemorrhages, Croup and Whooping Cough get quick relief and prompt cure from this glor ious medicine. 50c and $1.00. Trial bottle free, guaranteed by A. G. "I'm not afraid of any man living if I can get an even break. But I an not stopping murderers when they've got the drop on me and I don't know much about shooting irons. It's bet ter to say there he goes, than here he lies." This is the philosophy of Emil E. Kolar, former probationary patrolman of the Maxwell street station, who was discharged for cowardice in failing to arrest the murderer of Barnett Green berg, who was shot to death by a rob ber in his pawnshop at 843 South Hal sted street Monday night. Kolar lives ' at 60S Dekoven street. He owns his own home and is unmarried. "I might have caught the murderer," he said yesterday, "and he might have shot me.
