Dr. Chapman and his bride left last evening for an automobile trip and early In September will sail for Wales, where Dr. Chapman with Charles M. Alexander, will conduct a series of conferences. Wess Moore, the convict who was released from San Quentin, California, prison this summer following the con fession of a prominent California man, after he had served fifteen years in the penitentiary and who died at Indianapolis while en route to Wayne and Henry counies to visit relatives. was burled with military honors at Dublin on Sunday. The funeral service was presided over by the Rev. Swanders, the Friend minister of Dublin, and after the scrip ture reading, song and prayer, the William A. Boyd poBt, G. A. R. took charge. Moore was a drummer boy in the Fifth Indiana cavalry. He was buried in the Moore family lot. It was announced at the funeral that the prison authorities released Moore upon receiving a confession from a prominent man. It is said that in the confession the man declared Moore shot and instantly killed a claim jumper after the latter had fir ed on Moore. He also confessed that, as he was in with the claim jumper, he testified that Moore had deliberate ly murdered his companion in order that he might secure the gold mine. He said that Moore walking along the highway towards his claim one moonlight night when he and his companion accosted him. His com panion shot and missed and Moore pulled his gun and killed the man. After serving about fifteen years Moore was successful in interesting California people in bimeelf. The pris on authorities released him on parole after a mammoth petitfon had been circulated in his behalf. Moore upon his release established missions in different parts of California for the benefit of pardoned , convicts. For some alleged violation of his parole the prison authorities put him in pris on again where be served until on of his assailants confessed. A. Goulden of New York, Governor Fort of New Jersey, Governor Ansel of South Carolina and Willis L. Moore chief of the Unitrd States weather bureau, are among those scheduled to speak att he subsequent sessions ot the convention, which will continue over Thursday and Friday. The state of Rhode Island and the city of Providence have prepared an elaborate program' for tho entertain ment of the visitors. Water carnivals, regattas, clambakes and visits to the United States warships now in the harbor will be among tie special fea tures. . (American News Service.) Providence, R. I., Aug. 31. One of the most notable gatherings ever as sembled in the United States In the interest of waterway development met in this city today when the third an nual convention of the Atlantic Deep er Waterways association was called to order. The attendance includes up wards of 2,000 delegates and visitors. ho come from every Atlantic coas state. Among them are governors, senators and representatives in con gress, high officers of the United States navy and many prominent rep resentatives of the commercial and in dustrial world. The association was first organiz ed four years ago at the Jamestown exposition. Its object is to promote the construction, as a national enter prise, of a chain cf canals connecting natural and protected waterways altihg the Atlantic coast, thereby form ing a continuous inner navigation route from Boston to Key West. The project has already taken practical form in the beginning of construction work on a canal across Cape Cod, which when completed will eliminate the long open sea route around the Cape from Boston. Congressman J. Hampton Moore of Pennsylvania, president of the asso ciation, called the gathering to order in the Providence opera house at 10 o'clock tills morning. An official greeting to the delegates by Mayor Fletcher was followed by addresses by Congressmen John H. Small, of North Carolina, William S. Greene of Massachusetts and Richmond P. Hob son of Alabama. The latter was heard on the subject of "Inland Waterways as an Aid to National Defence." Rear Admiral C. S. Sperry, U. S. N., presided at the afternoon session and among the speakers were Mayor Fitz gerald cf Boston,' President Lloyd E. Chamberlain of the Massachusetts state board of trade, Commander Al fred Brooks Fry, U. S. N., and Hon. Herbert Knox Smith, commissioner of the Bureau of Corporations.
