ELECTS GUY FARLOW

Guy Farlow was selected to head
the Tribe of Ben Hur as chief for
the ensuing year at the election-: of
officers last night in the Commercial
club rooms. Nominations were made
a week ago. ;s
The other officers elected are-, as
follows: Judge, Mrs. Phenie Robin
son; teacher, Mrs. Guy Farlow; scribe,
Elizabeth Kamp ; keeper of tribute,
Ross Robinson ; captain, Mrs. Leona
Frame; guide, Mies Anna Schneider;
keeper of inner gate, Ralph Brown;
keeper of outer gate, Calvert Gordon;
drill captain, Omar Wine.
Public installation of these officers,;
under the direction of Brother Steele
Of Crawfordsville, supreme lecturer
Of the state lodge, will be held on the
night of January 13. The installation
is expected to bring out a large at
tendance. The Ben Hur tribe while not hav
ing plane for a Christmas celebration
will enjoy an informal, entertainment
on the night of December 30. JS'o pro

ening, December. 23. -

President would appoint a committee
of three experts familiar with the
mining laws and difficulties of mln
era, and commission them to suggest
a new- mining code to congress, It
would give a new freedom to the mih

to a section of the annual report of
Secretary of the Interior Franklin K.
Lane, made public today.
"Between mining engineers and min
ing lawyers the rulea of the game have
been refined into obscurity," says See
rotary Lane.
In this section of hie report Secre
tary Lane says: Tt would be too
hazardous a thing to surrender the
resources of Alaska to local control or
disposal, for those who have lived in
a new country, know-how great the
temptation- is to grant away water
front and power sltee, forests and oth
er exceptional resources to those who
come offering, large sums for quick
improvement.-
For this reason the secretary recom-4
mends tnat toward Alaska the federal
government maintain an attitude of
"sympathetic co-operation, keeping in
close touch through the United States
resident " commissioner in the terrt
tory with the progress of the great
northern province.
