CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

"Christian Science; the Religion of
Fulfillment."- The speaker was intro
duced by Postmaster C. B. Beck.
Judge Greene's lecture follows in
part:
What the world is wanting is seek
ingis a religion that comes to the
6ick and tells them how to be well;
" that comes to. the discouraged and de
; spondent and lifts them out of the
; slough of despair. . and despond into
; the richness, into the fullness, into
the Joy, of a closer walk with God.
Christian Science supplies this need,
through the spiritual Interpretation of
the Bible and the consequent spiritual
1 understanding' of God; and enables
i the world to find the rest and the
! peace that are promised by the Mas
J ter.
Christian Science comes teaching in
the very words of Jesus of old that
'the kingdom of God, the kingdom of
'Heaven, is at hand Is here, is now,
within us, around us, and about us.
ThroughHhe practice and understand-
ling of this teaching of Jesus, men and
r women in constantly increasing num-
1 bers are healed of all manner of sick
it ness and sin, and their lives are made
f brighter, better and more satisfying.

i . f - Not Cure-All.
Christian Science in its healing min
l istry is not a patent cure-all, nor is it
Mind faith com It is cot the action of
' 'will power, nor is it the action of the
' (human mind. On the contrary,' it
t teaches.-that the human mind must
t yield to the divine .Mind, to that mind
t which was also in Christ Jesus. In
t proportion that Christian Science Is
understood, the life and words of
Christ Jesus become practicable for
all ages and all people.
J Ignoring, however, the persecution,
the lack of sympathy and interest man
ifested by tho world in her discovery
during the early years. Mrs. Eddy nev
- er wavered in her task. The result of
j her studies she has since given to the
t world in the Christian Science text
book, "Science and Health with Key to
the Scriptures,'; commonly called
; Science- and Health, which was ' pub
J lished in 187?. ':. . ;- ' '
In Science and Health, page 123,. we
read "Divine Science, rising above
physical theories, excludes matter, re
solves things into thoughts, and re
places the objects of material sense
with the objects of material sense with
spiritual Ideas."
Try In Household.
Let us try this plan in our destruc
tion of eviL We may begin on the
members of the household by seeing
them as thoughts; thoughts of God,
expressions of His goodness and His
love, existing to bless the home and
all mankind. Contrariwise, let us not
see them as selfish, impatient, intoler
ant, and all such evil thoughts or be
liefs will be banished from the home.'
Then home will become the abiding
place of love, goodness and harmony.
Perhaps some of you are workers in
other lines clerks or proprietors of
stores.
It doeB not make any difference in
working God's way about one's rank,
whether he be clerk or proprietor.
The proper business or work for him
in either instance is to prove God and
His all-ness. Then do not see the
business as so many selfish clerks to
be handled or as a cruel boss to be
dealt .with, or as so much material to
be shown to customers, then put on
the shelves day after day. Resolve
all the business into thoughts of God,
expressions of God's goodness, God's
love, existing to bless clerks, proprie
tors, customers and all mankind. To
wait on customers is added opportun
ity day after day to show forth the
goodness and love of God whose re
flection you are. It thus means oppor
tunity to bless each customer and
should mean great joy to you and to
them.
Christian Science is trying to teach
men that for every human need they
should look to God, to the spiritual
and not to the material. There is
nothing in all God's creation to fear,
for God is All-in-all and one cannot
fear God or good.
Forgiveness of Sins.
It has sometimes been asked if
Christian Science teaches that sin is
forgiven. It does. Sin is forgiven
when its nothingness is understood
and the sinner no longer indulges
therein. To pray for forgiveness, and
to continue in sin does not raise a
man to any new state of consciousness
or well-being. It is like praying to an
idol, it does not accomplish anything,
but to know and understand that the
illusions called sin are unreal, and
confer no sweetness, or power, is to
rise above sin and destroy it, conse
quently to find forgiveness.
Let us consider an instance in the
life of the Master. On the occasion
when the Scribes and Pharisees
brought before him a woman taken in
adultery, they were seeking the de
struction of the woman and meaning
at the same time, to involve the Mas
ter in a conflict with Jewish law. They
assured him that the woman was guil
ty, and that the law commanded that
such as she should be stoned, but that
they desired to know what be had to
say. The record states that he stoop
ed and with his finger wrote on the
ground. Is it not possible that in that
moment the Master turned his gaze
away from the group that he might
pray, that he might see each one of
that group as God's idea, an expres
sion of God's goodness and God's
love? He did not want to see self
righteous condemning Scribes and
Pharisees, nor did he wish to see an
impure, sinful woman, but he did want
to see each one as a child of God, ex
pressing God-like qualities.
Judge by Result.
From the result, we may judge
whether or not the Master's treat
ment, or prayer, was effective; the
men, one by one. went out and left the
woman alone. The Master, then look
ing upon her asked where were her
accusers and being informed that
there were none he answered. "Neith
er do I condemn thee; go and sin no
more." Thus Jesus taught that his
mission was not to condemn, but to
save the world. As followers of him,
are men more apt now to condemn or
to seek to save? Is not our way to
group men in our thoughts and to
label them one group with a certain
disease, another group with some dis
ease, then one group guilty of this
crime, and another group guilty of
some other crime in other words,
condemning them to disease and sin
when God has not?
Let us rather be followers of the
Master and try to save our fellowmen
by knowing and understanding that
they are God's children and as such,
neither sick nor sinful.
Water Shortage in Oxford

signed to become supervisor of nurses

them in his office. As they Step up to
him they receive a vigorous hand
clasp and are then hustled out of the
building by the secret service men.
The president has something to say
to each visitor, and if he happens to be
from Ohio be is in rare luck, for the
president has more than mere pleas
antries for callers trom his native
state. He asks them where their
homes are and then, as a rule, follows
a brief discussion of mutual ac
quaintances. Strong Handshake.
Those who have tested the hand
clasps of both men declare that the
late Col. Roosevelt "had nothing on"
President Harding. A man of power
ful frame and large, strong hands,
President Harding grips the hand of
a caller like a rise, and the presiden
tial hand generally enfolds that of the
visitor The secret service men who
have charge of the public receptions
have expressed amazement that Mr.
Harding has shown no signs of fa
tigue as a result of the strain he has
been subjected to.
President Harding also pleases bis
visitors by bis readiness to comply
with requests for his autographs.
Last week a wee miss, accompanied
by her mother, called at the White
House with her autograph album and
asked one of the executive secretaries
lr Mr. Harding would not place his
signature therein. She was told that
the president was at a cabinet meet
ing, whereupon large tears began to
roll down the Dlumn cheeks nf the
j little girl. The secretary, being a

album into the cabinet room and re
turned a minute later with the presi
dential autograph and was properly
rewarded by the young lady.
Want Autographs
Many of the thousands who call at
the White House bring pocket bibles,
albums, books, card cases and even
pennants and pictures for the cher
ished signature. "Warren G. Hard
ing." Frequently the president writes
a little sentiment above his signature,
something that neither President
Taft nor President Roosevelt would
do. except for intimate friends.
The White House employes who
handle the thousands who call upon
the new president ask of each other:
"How long will it last?" and the an
swer generally is: "How long can it
last?"
The open door policy at the White
House has been manna from the
heavens for the '"rubber-neck" bus
companies. They are reaping a gold
en harvest by carrying bus-load after
bus-load to the executive mansion. So
far President Harding has never
failed them.
Many tourist groups appeal to their
members of congress or their senators
to escort them to the White House,
requests which are generally com
plied with. Many of the visitors ar
children and to them Laddie Boy. th
presidential dog, is an attraction 'j
most as great as the chief executive

Wireless Telephone
T'HE PALLADIUM announces today the installation of a complete sending
and receiving wireless telephone equipment, as a part of its regular news
gathering machinery.
The wireless telephone came to life during the war, and it has only been
within the last eight months that the results of the experiments have been
made public. The wireless telephone has passed the fundamental experimental
stage, according to engineers, and its developments have been so rapid that the
possibilities of its utilization are unlimited.
The equipment which has been installed by the Palladium was designed
by an engineer who, for a number of years, has been connected with govern
ment work, and during the war was in charge of wireless communication over
seas. With the receiving equipment which has been installed, it is possible to
hear the human voice for a distance of 800 to 1 ,000 miles and a still farther
distance under the most favorable weather conditions.
The transmitting equipment will carry the human voice for a distance of
from 1 00 to 300 miles, depending on weather conditions.
The wireless telephone will be used in gathering news in places where
the regular telephone is not available. It will also be used in cases of accidents
where speed is necessary and the regular telephone is some distance away. A
car will be equipped with a portable sending and receiving outfit which can be
used at any location within the territory, keeping in direct communication at all
times with the Palladium office. The equipment will also be used for giving out
election returns, baseball scores and such other events to the outlying districts.
At the request of several organizations who have asked for a demonstra
tion of the wireless telephone, The Palladium has arranged for a series of meet
ings within a twenty-five mile radius of Richmond, which will be held in
schools, churches and public halls throughout the territory. The first demon
stration will be held at Whitewater next Monday night, where the farmers fed
eration will meet. Chas. W. Jordan will address the meeting by wireless tele
phone from the Palladium office and Harrison's will furnish an Edison to en
liven the meeting with music. At the meeting at Whitewater a temporary re
ceiving equipment will be placed in the school house and a magnavox will be
used to throw the sound out in the room.
Requests for these demonstrations will be booked according to the order
in which they are received and they may be held at any place within a radius
of 25 or 30 miles of Richmond with the very best of results except on stormy
nights.
