FARMERS BENEFIT
BY BUYING SERVICE
FOR FARM BUREAU
The following statement is sent out
by the Indiana Federation of Farmers
associations in its weekly news letter:
During the last week 60 sets of
Victory No. 1 harness were sold
through the federated marketing serv
ice to the farm bureau members in
Indiana. Each county farm bureau
was sent a set of harness and from the
sales last week it seems farmers are
availing themselves of the chance to
take these harness off the govern
ment's hands at 41 a set. Farmers
who can use head harness at this
price saving are helping themselves
and also Uncle Sam.
Up until April 10 the federated mar
keting service has sold to farm bureau
members 6,000 tons of fertilizer. Six
cars of muriate of potash and 12 tons
of 16 per cent acid phosphate were
sent to northern counties for home
mixing to produce a 10-10 mixture.
This 10-10 home-mixed goods purchas
ed through the. marketing service
stands the bureau members at $25 a
ton. The same goods started with tho
fertilizer companies at $49.50. Thus
those members who availed themselves
of this co-operation service saved vir
tually half on this deal. Although
sonw of the big packing companies are
cjuoting now a price of $15 a ton on
16 acid Phosphate the farm bureaus
are standing by the contract price
and are buying from the Federated
Marketing Service at $20 a ton in the
face of the more attractive offers
from independent companies.
In connection with the accomplish
ments noted above, the Wayne county
farm bureau announces that approx
imately 1,000 tons ot fertilizer were
bought by Wayne county through the
federated marketing service, at a re
duction from the asking price at the
beginning of the season of $31 a ton
for 16 per cent acid to a price now of
$20 a ton. The officials point out that
this saving is enough to almost pay
the five dollar yearly fee for each of
the 1.200 farm bureau members, and
that it is a saving to non-members as
well as members, since the bureau is
organized for the benefit of all farmers
rather than simply for the members.
It is announced also by the county
agent that samples of the harness men
tioned are in his office, and orders may
be sent in after inspection of the har
ness, the price being that quoted
above plus the express charges, of two
or three dollars.
DAIRY MEETING SATURDAY
Stockholders of the newly formed
co-operative dairy marketing associa
tion for the vicinity of Richmond will
