Pace Two. THE TIMES. Fvi.lav. October 18. 1918 SHDTJHL CH1GAG0 Board of Health There Sees No Reason Why They Should Be Open. By recent order of the local board of health of East Chicago, the closing orfior issued by the state board .of health, has been made to extend to all oft drink parlors and coffee houses. This action was t:iken because it became at once apparent that the clos ing: of the theatres and other public places was causing a, congestion in tho dry beer centers and that the person al contact and the drlnkinsr from com mon glasses In these drink halls was nullifying: the state order. Accordingly dry beer, as well as wet beer is now under the ban. Mayor McCormack said this morning; that he was being blamed for issuing this closing: order, but that as a mat ter of fact the credit, not the blame, belong: to the department of health; that he would have issued the order, however, without any hesitation had the prerogative been up to him in stead of up to the board of health, because he could see that this step was Imperative in order to help the authorities get hold of rtiis influenza epidemic.
