Club met according to adjournment; the order of the day being to raise a pole and banner. A large number of friends to the Republican cause from other neighbor hoods assembled in common with our citizeus and manifested a lively inter est in the pole-raising. There were al 60 a number of the Democracy pres ent, the greater portion of whom be haved respectfully, but that portion which had been indulging in "Plat form" wero somewhat annoying, so much so, indeed, that they wero very suddenly silenced. There hd been threats made by the "Platform" mem bers of (aid party that the pole hould not be raised, the main objection be ing that we had "cabbaged" their fa vorite timber (hickory) and incorpo rated it into our pole. But inasmuch as the Republican party at the time of its organization skimmed the cieam from their party in point of men as well as from their former principles, WH felt fully justifiable in making the first or lower section of our pole of hickory. The pole was 174 feet long. After the raising was completed, Mr. A. Stone, (our candidate for State Senator,) proposed three cheers for the success iu the raising. THOMAS M.
