Wednesday seftembf.b THE FtJNY CORNER During the war with Napoleon a draft was ordered in Kngiand, and Por so i. the great classical scholar, made the following squib upon it in the Maeca ronic Terse, or mixture of Latin and English, then very popular. The fol lowing tender and poetical epistle is from an Arkansas girl to her '' lovyer " in the Confederate army. It was picked up by one rjf nnr sLi; - .- l. etjj ti the N est, where the rebels had been de feated, and is a genuine production. It is rendered doubly interesting from the fact that one does not perceive that it runs into poetry till after a little study, and the surprise, when the rhyming word is discovered. very pleasant It is no wonder the Southern soldiers are unfitted for fighting, and are always defenttxl now-a-days, if they receive letters of this kind to any great extent Ind. JOHN BULL'S COMPOUND CEDRON BITTERS, The Latest and Most Important Dis covery of the 19th Century. AJO MAN'S NAME IS MORE INTIMATELY i 1A connected with the history of the Materia Medica of the United States, or more lavorably known as a pioneer in medical discovery, than that of Dr. JOHN BULL, of Louisville, Ky. His inimitaMe preparation of Sarsaparilla has long stood at the h- ad of the various compounds of that valuable drug. His Compound Pictobal of Wild Cheubt has become a household word throughout the West and South ; and his Worm Lozenges, in less than a year after tfctit introduction, attained a reputation as wide-spread as the continent of North America. But th" erowning glory of hi9 life remains to be attained in his latest discovery, or rather combination ; tor he does not claim to have been the discoverer of CEDRON, which is the i basis uf the bitters now offered to tho public. That honor belongs to the native inhabitants of Central America, to whom its virtues have been known for more than two hundred years. Armed with it, the Indian bids defiance to the most dead ly malaria, and handles without fear the most venemons serpents. It is a lwlief with them that while there is breath left in the body, theOedron is potent to cure, uo mutter what the disease mav be. While Dr. Bull is not prepared to indorse this extravagant pretension, he is uevortheless satis fled from a thorough examination of the evidence relative to its virtnes, that as a remedy and pre ventative for all discuses arising from exposure, either to changes of weather and climate, or to the miasmatic influences, it stands without a rival and justly deserve the reputation it hosso long enjoyed iu Central America and the West Indies. Iu DYSPEPSIA, And its attendant train of fymptoms, its acts more like a charm than a meiiicine. There is nothing iu the whole range of the Materia Medica, that for a niom?ut bear a comparison with it in this disease. A full account of this wonderful plant may be fouud iu the 11th edition of the U. S. Dispensa tory, pages i:t7 aud 1388. A series of experiments in which Dr. Bull has been for years engaged, has just been brought to a successful termination, and he is now enabled to offer to the public a combination of Cedron with other approved tonics, the whole preserved In the best quality of copper- distilled Bonrbon whisky, which he is congdeut has no equal in the worhl. He might furnish a volume- of certificates, but u public have long since learned to estimate " "ct things at their true value. The safest plan . for every one to test for himself the virtues oi new medicine. Give Cetli-on Bittei-s, Our trial aud ycu will never use any others.
