Vernon, (morning and evening) at such times and places as the friends may select, on Sunday next. We trust they will exert themselves to give fnll notice of the appointments, that lie may have large audiences. Circuit Court. The session of tl e Circuit Court was resumed on Thursday, to which time it had taken recess. The whole time of the court has, since then, been consumed in the trial of a civil case Hudspett, vs Clarke, on change of venue, from Warrick county. The case is to recover damages from defendants for a breach of contract in the erection of a tobacco warehouse at Boonville. A host of witnesses are in attendance, and the case will probably occupy the whole of the day. Chandler & Hynes appear for the plaintiff, Blythe and Denby for the de fence. " Leaves have their time to tail," Says the poet; and the time for the fall of the leaves from the shade trees in this city has now arrived, and the gutters and sidewalks are covered with them. New Corx. We saw yesterday a wag. on load of new corn the first offered, we believe, in this market. It is sound, large-eared and well matured, and, from its appearance, we should infer that less injury was done by the early frosts to corn than has been generally apprehend ed. The price paid for the load of which we speak was 75 cents per bushel in the ear. Godev, the ladies' favorite for November, is received by Dobell. It is, as usual, full of novelties. It contains an engraving worth the whole of the money. The faBhion plates are magnifi cent. The large arrivals of goods dur ing the last few days directly from Bos ton and the manufacturing towns in its vicinity, have rendered the stock of Tur ner & Gwathmey more full and complete than ever before, and the reduced prices at which thly are selling, enables them to supply the trade with shoes and hats upon the most favorable and satisfactory terms. Fuel. The Government has made ar rangements to supply steamers on the Mississippi with wood, at prices ranging from $2 90 to $3 50 per cord. This will greatly reduc-3 the demand for coal and will greatly lessen the price of that com modity. Correction. In making up the elec tion returns on Thursday evening, we in adverdently placed J. Bischmann's name under the head of Prosecuting Attorney. Of course our readers will kuow that he was a candidate for Com missioner. Waste Paper About three hundred pounds of Democratic, alias Vallandig ham Tickets, were SCld to a rag dealer in Cincinnati, on Wednesday. The sup ply on Tuesday, in this line, was largely in excess of the demand. A Tribune spe I cial has the following from Chattanooga on the 10th: Since the 7th no hostile demonstra tions have been made on our front. Their batteries on the North-Kastern slope of Lookout Mountain have been withdrawn, and those on the left have rci moved, so that yesterday and to-day our funs on the left and the right compelled ragg to remove his headquarters from Mission Kidge, and drove away a whole signal corps on Lookout Mountain. Last night aobut 8 o'clock, according to the reports of passengers from the army, informa tion came to Gen. Meade's headquarters that a corpsjof the rebel army, supposed to be A. P Hill's had moved from our front in the direction of Leesburg. The Star says a heavy reconnoisance was immediately started in the direction of Aldie. Latest From New Orleans. Dick. Taylor at Shrev eport The Fed erals Advancing on that Place. New York, Oct. 16. The steamer Columbia from New Orleans has arrived. She has 400 bales of cotton, and 200 hogsheads of sugar. The only military item in the papers is in the mississippian, (Rebel) which states that Dick. Taylor occupied Shrev port, on which the Federals would ad vance as soon as reinforced. The Federals had captured a large number of negroes, who were repairing the Shreveport and Vicksburg railroad. Several steamers had arrived at New Orleans, bringing 3,370 bales of cotton. Washington, Oct, 16. Commissioner Dole, during his late visit to Kansas, thoroughly investigated the difficulties connected with the Kickapoo treaty. The evidence is now under consideration by the Secretary of the Interior. The Commissioner made four or five treaties with the Indians for their remo val from Kansas. They cannot be car ried into effect without the action of Congress. He represents the Indians everywhere as peaceable, with the exception of the Sionx, on the Upper Missouri, and a few tribes in New Mexico. Curtin's Majority in Philadelphia T,OSl. Philadelphia. There is nt last light upon the situation in front. The fighting yesterday grew out of an attempt of the rebels to cut off a train of wagons at Bristow's Station. The immediate guard was at first driven in, but the Sec ond Corps suddenly attacked, and alter a brisk tight put the enemy to right and captured a rebel battery in five minutes. In the hottest of the engage ment, 36 pieces of artillery were at work. Brentville, a guerrilla rendezvous, was destroyed. Meade has lost no stores, guns or wagons, has his men well in hand, and is fully ready for Lee. Gen. Sickles went to the front to day. The report that he is to succeed Meade, is of course utterly unfounded. He is not able to take the chief command were he selected. There is no probability of an immediate change. GUNS CAPTTRED. In the repulse of the enemy's! attack on Gen. Warren, who was bringing tip the rear, we captured six guns from the ene my. It was not known here up to 2 o'clock this P. M. whether there had been fighting of any consequence to-day. Gen. Sickles and staff left here for the front at 2 o click this afternoon. In case of a general engagement he will take command of his old corps. PRISONERS ARRIVED. Four hundred and seventy-five prison ers of war arrived this evening, captured at Bristow Station yesterday. One re port makes it out that we captured two rebel batteries ; another, fourteen guns. Memphis, Oet. 13. A considerable number of rebel dead and j wounded fell into our hands, the former I not being included in the foregoing tLtr- j gregate of prisoners. The march from our late to our new position was accom plished in most perfect order and without loss of wagons or other property. The eye be ing the moat delicate organ, and of the most vital importance to the happiness and prosperity of man, should never be tampered with, either by the Individual or by those who, for mere profit, take upon themselves the wiling of Optical In struments, and who know nothing of the anatomy of thecye, or how to discover the proper glasses to suit the peculiarity ot the different sights of those needing spectacles. Thousands have lost their vision entirely from not applying to those only qualified to know the different defects in each in dividual's sight, and how to remedy it by wearing the proper kind of spectacles. I.
