A small rise will reach us. here to morrow or next day, tut t for the present only a small rise may he expected. The favorite Cairo packet, the irrepres sible May Duke, got off yesterday at noon Wltn a nanusome irtp. uapi. ousu. r. Throopis in command. lheJ. H. Baldwin passed down yes j terday very light, en route to the Cum i Ijerland river. She attempted to cross ! the bar in front of the landing too high up. and stuck, but was detained but a few minutes. The Delaware did not leave Louisville until Monday evening, and in view of the difficulties of navigation will prabably not get here until early this morning She will afford handsome accommoda tions for travelers to Louisville or way ports to-day. y The steamer Mist, burnt on Wednw day last by guerrillas near Helena, was owned by Captain. J. C. Calhoun, of Pa dueah, and coat $40,000. In addition to the loss of the boat, the scoundrels rob bed Captain Calhoun of $15,000, and Captain E. Wood of $5,127 in cash. Four of them eame to steal horses on Thursday in the neighborhood of Dale's Landing. The citizens turned out against them, and shot two and captured the others. The Memphis Bulletin of Saturday, forwarded to us by express from Cairo on Monday morning, througn tne cour tesy of George 0. Hart, of the big Lib erty No. 2, says : Business was only fair at the levee yesterday, although considerable Govern ment freight wai discharged, also con siderable cotton from the steamer Emer ald. Some eorn was also brought down by the Collier and other boats. The weather was clear but cold, mak ing the wharfmen step around a little quicker than is their wont, to keep up the circulation. Owing to the rain on the day before it was somewhat muddy, and corresspond- ingly disagreeable. The river has at last commencad to rise, and our business men are in high anticipation of a lively fall trade. There was a large number of arrivals yesterday. Government having pressed all the boats hence to Cairo, except the May Duke, there will be no mail boat going out to-day. It is uncertain whether the May Duke will escape. The West Virginia will Leave at noon to-day for Cairo. She will bo the only boat going out to-day. Her officers are gentlemen of the first water.
