We are authorized to announce that Geueral Carrington will speak at Haub stadt on Tuesday, November 21 th, and will canvass Knox, Gibson and Vander bnrgh counties to aid enlistments. Grape Vines. There was an exciting rumor ou the streets yesterday that the city of Paducah, Ky., had been burnt, by whom or in what manner we were unable to learn. The non-arrival of the Bowen ws, by some, considered tantamount to a confirmation of the report But as the Telegraph is silent on the subject, and as we have had frequent sensation reports of the burning of Paducah, and as the rumor prevailed in Henderson some two or three days ago, we are not in the least inclined to believe the report If the rebels should attempt to sack the city, we have not the slightest doubt but that it will be burned. The arrival of the Bowen since the abovs was iu type, has disposed of all fears for the safety of Paducah. Accident. Another man was killed on the E. & C. R. IV, between Terre Haute and Kockville, a few evenings since. It is the same story. He had trot drunk, laid down on the track, the train came along in the night, and he was dis covered too late to stop the train. The whole top of his head was cut off. ' valuable war-horse, which will be pre j sented to the Major this evening, on the corner of Main and Third streets, at 7J o'clock. Appropriate speeches will be made in German, and a good time generally is expected. Not Done yet. In consequence of the necessity of sharpening the saws of the steam sawing-machine, no work was done yesterday on the wood pile, except by the pupils of Prof. Behm's Commer cial College, who turned out en masse and worked vigorously. A new call will be made, when it is hoped that all patriotic people of this city will turn out, without regard to rank or condition, and finish the job. Due notice will be given. Crescent City Hall was filled again last night by one of the most fash ionable audiences we have ever seen at a public exhibition, to witness the Pano rama. The paintings are in the highest style of art. Excellent order is kept, good music present, and we predict a full house to-night. One of Hunnewell'l Great Remedies. HUNXEVVELL'S TOLtf ANODYNE. Gossip from tbe Hew York Papers Meade Anxious to Flgbt Halleck Opposed. . New York, Nov. 18. The Post's Washington correspondent says there was some dispute here over an amusing question and it was this: Does General Meade desire to advance upon the ene my? It is claimed by some of his friends that he does desire to push on at once, but that Gen. Halleck is opposed to it On the other hand it is said that both, Gens. Halleck and Meade are agreed that no further advance shall be made this winter, but that the President insists upon more fighting, before the winter compels the army to cease its op erations until next spring. It is assumed that in the regular con dition of things, four different men have the reputation of being opposed to the further prosecution of the war. I feel very certain of two things. That Gen. Halleck is not eager for another battle on the southern side of the Rappahan nock, and that Gen. Meade is. The General was urged to go to Get tysburg and be refused peremtorily, and has gone back to fight If the enemy affords him anything like a fair fiehraud will stand up for battle, he will try the hazard. Gen. Meade is a prudent Gen eral too cautious at times, and even ho is convinced that it is in his power to beat the army under Gen. Lee. Moseby is gathering up all the Union citizens of Virginia between here and Warrenton, and our troops by way of retaliation, are capturing rebel Virgin ians and bringing them in for consign ment to the Alabama Capitol prison. Chattanooga, Nov. 17. This morning the enemy brought a battery down to the river side, and shelled the camp of the 125th Illinois, which was guarding the ford 6 miles above here, killing the Rev. Mr. Sanders, Chaplain of the regiment. The enemy was forced to retire after half an hour's practice, by the 2d Min nesota battery. All quiet here, and the situation re mains unchanged.
