The river commenced rising
at this
point on Monday night, and
was risin?
very rapidly at dark last evening1.
At Cincinnati the river continues to
rise, with 12 feet 4 inches in the chan
nel, with heavy rains

At Pittsburg the river was falling, with
8 feet in the channel, with a steady
rain falling, which will doubtless cause
a fresh rise at once; bo that the question
of navigation for the winter is pretty
well settled.
Green river is on a stand, and it is
very desirable that it should remain so
for the present, in order that the locks
at Rumsey may be repaired.
Captain Lumm, of the Gazelle, in
forms us that the coffer dam was put in
on Saturday last, and that the water
would probably be out by Sunday even
ing, and the work will be completed
within six weeks if the water does not
interfere.
Captain Lumm's little Gazelle, which
has been plying on Green river above
Kunisey, struck a log on Saturday at
Rochester and sunk immediately. Capt.
Shewmaker's propeller ihe Himrod
is now the only boat above the break.
We have no late intelligence from the
Cumberland and Tennessee, but the late
ains would indicate a fresh rise in the
Cumberland at least
There was nothing at all going on at
the levee yesterday, there not being a
single arrival during the day, except the
royxl Armada, which came in about 8
O'clocfr.
She will bo the regular and popular
packet for Paducah and Cairo, at noon
to day. Capt. Josh. V. Throop and Fred.
Huston are her experienced and popular
officers, and will give all needful atten
tion to the interests of shippers and
travelers. The royal Armada makes un
precedented fast time.
The mona'ch of tho Louisville and
Henderson line, the big Grey Eagle,
which has no rival in elegance or speed
on the Lower Ohio, will be the regular
packet for Henderson and Louisville
this evening.
The Big Eagle is commanded by those
courteous and affable officers and gentle
men, Cant James A. Lusk and George
Williams, whoso urbanity and politeness
are proverbs hence to' the Falls City.
