Tbe river is falling at this point, but from present indications the fall will be rapid unless it rains again. We have no news from Cincinnati or Pittsburg to-day. . The river has been full of steamers for the last twenty-four hours most of them in Government service. The Commercial got in from Mem phis about 1 o'clock yesterday morning with her cabins full of people, as usual. She is in magnificent trim, and will be here again on Friday, on her way to Memphis. The Big Grey Eagle arrived about a quarter after 4 yesterday afternoon full of people. Mr. O'Bannon, her new clerk, has stepped at once into the good graces of the traveling public, and re. lieves the regret so sensibly felt for the vacation of Major Williams to a great extent. The Eagle returned to Louis ville about 10 o'clock last night There was a rumor on the street yes. terday that the Charley Bowon and Commercial had collided at a point about 90 miles below here Tuesday night at 9 o'clock. As the Commercial arriv ed here at 1 o'clock yesterday morn- iug, it was impossible lor her to have been at the point designated at 9 o'clock the night previous. It must have been some boat that has not yet arrived. We are without particulars, not knowing the ex tent of the damages sustained by either boat. The grand Armada will leave for Cairo at noon to-day. Captain Josh V. Throop and Fred Huston are her chief officers, and two cleverer gentlemen or more accomplished officers never ran a steam boat. The Armada offers fine attrac tions to shippers and travelers. The elegant Little Grey Eagle will be the splendid packet for Louisville this evening, under command of that veteran officer Captain Ballard, with the cour teous and affable Banksmith in the office. Iler passenger accommodations are very superior. The New Albany Ledger of yesterday says the river at that point is falling. There is 3 feet of water in the pass over the Falls, and thence to Cairo there is a channel depth of 10 feet. The Louisville. Journal of yesterday says ; The river is falling, with 6 feet in the canal, 4 feet in the Indiana chute, and 3 feet on the rocks. At Pittsburg, the river was, at last accounts, falling, with 6 feet 2 inches water; also at Cincinnati, with 15 feet Here the river has reced ed 6 inches during the 24 hours ending last night There is about 12 feet hence to Cincinnati and about 10 feet hence to Cairo. At a special meeting of the Steamboat Captains Benevolent Association, held at Cincinnati on Monday, one thousand dollars was donated for the benefit of the United States Sanitary Commission Fair, which is to be held in that city shqrtly. The new Tarascon failed to go over the Falls yesterday. She will, however, go to-day. Captain Dan Abie's new boat, for the St. Louis and Memphis trade, will be launched in Nadle's shipyard this evening at Si o'clock. The Missouri Democrat of yesterday says: The description of weather yesterday was just as anticipated! Whereas, dur ing two nights and one and a half days, winter reigned with great severity, yes terday was all aglow with a warm sun and a southern bresze. The river was full of ice, it is confessed, but it offered no obstruction to running steamers, be ing of the tenderest consistency. But the cold snap has been unfortun ate in its immediate effect of shrinking the water so as to reduce the channel depth in our not too high rivers, as see per paragraph below. There was comparatively a rapid de cline since our last The decline was five inches in the 24 hours ending at 9 a. m., yesterday. The last steamers report only five feet in the channel from Cairo up, a decline of one foot The river is navigable to Quiney, with four feet in the channel, a decline of one foot, but is supposed to be practically closed to Keokuk by ice. ihe tt. raul rress of Nov. 2oth says: Some floating ice was observable yes- teruay morning, out it was very ngnr ana soft The great danger is a gorge in the bend above Hastings. One cold night would close it solid. On Monday there was quite a gorge at that place. The Illinois is frozen over at Naples, Beardstown, Bath in fact it is closed from the mouth to Lasalle, unless the warm sun and wind of yesterday caused it to unloose its tight grasp of the steam ers Lacon, Prairie State, James Mean?, Katie Bruner, Little Mrnnehaha, and other boats, which were on . Monday fro sen up. Heavy ice is floating in the Missouri, and there is no present navigation in that stream. The Des Arc has been sold by Captain Hicks King to Messrs. Comstock, Ohio, for the sum of $40,000. A CaT0 dispatch of Tuosday even-' ing says: The Southwester ran into the Mill Boy last Tuesday, above the mouth of Whito , river, damaging her badly. The guerrillas fired into the Welcome and Emerald at Waterproof. Six were ! killed and wounded on the Welcome, and several wounded on the Emerald. The enemy had a light battery. A stern-wheeler, name unknown, was ! also fired into near White river on last Thursday. Up to the hour of closing our report we have nothing from the Bowen. Some of our most sagacious river friends think her rumored collision a canard. REGULAR PACKETS. 'HE SWIFT AND SPLENDID STEAMER R. B.
