Nettie Ruse, Louisv. . : The river s falling at tbis point quite rapidly, and all the way hence to Pitts burg, and fears are again entertained of navigation being goon closed by ice.J The weather is much moderated, and it is not impossible that we may have rain soon. There was but little business transact ed at the landing yesterday. The Grand Armada went out at two o'clock, with her cabins full of people and a good freight list It is a pleasure to see her rualAQL dVIAi I The Emma came in yesterday morn ing from Nashville, and went above to load with Government corn. Her officers report having met the Charley Bowen, with her jack-staff car ried away, but apparently not otherwise damaged, as she was making magnificent time. She will doubtless bo found at her wharf to-day, ready to receive freight and passengers lor Cairo to-morrow. The Little Grey Eagle came in last night with a nice trip, and looking mag nificent as " she walked the waters like a thing of life.'' She is the prettiest craft adoat She left on her return be- fore midnight This evening the popular Commercial will be down, en route to Memphis. She has spacious passenger accommodations, is finely officered, possesses great power and speed, and, will present a fine oppor tunity for shippers or passengers for Memphis and way ports. The musical Glendale, of the Dean Line, is on her way down, and may be expected here to-day. The Big Liberty will leave Cairo on Monday evening next, for Memphis, af ter the arrival of the train from the north. Persons going to Memphis will do-well to bear this in mind. She has no rival. arT:''ri.JflffJ UTtiUi .'I'lf.'lT Jf'OR MAsnviLLE. The fine steamer Emma is now loading at Newbnrg, and will leave here for Nashville to morrow morning, and will want passengers. The Emma has fine passenger accommoda" tioug, and Capt. Dunken and our clever young friend Henry Miller, chief clerk, will see that those who travel with them are made comfortable. The Louisville Journal of yesterday The river is falling with 5 feet 8 inches m the channel. Capt Abie's new boat was successful ly launched from Nadal s shipyard yes terday. lhe new steamer iarascon went over the falls yesterday. 8he will be finished at an early day, and enter into the Unitod States mail line between this city and Henderson, The; Missouri Democrat of yesterday says : Mild weather prevailed yesterdav, with warm sunshine and gentle south ern wind, greatly to the satisfaction of those concerned, with few exceptions. lhe only sign ot winter visible, was sheet of thin sloppy ice floating in the river, not strongh enough to retard the progress ot a canoe. Many boats were busv loading for the South, and others were preparing to sail to the lately, if not still ice bound upper rivers. The river declined 2 inches in the 24 hours ending at 9 a. m. yesterday. Depth of water to Cairo not over i feet, perhaps still less. The Illinois river has several gorges Lowest water about 30 inches. lhe Missouri is mil ot floating ice, very low, and unnavigated. The Davenport Gazette of Tuesday Says : On Sunday morning at sunrise tne thermometer ranged down to zero. Monday morning at the same hour the mercury stood at 23 deg. ; the air was tiercingly keen, however, and a due otnage to the freezing point was main tained all day. The river above the city was bridged with ice all day on Monday, though the channel below was clear. At LeCIaire the usual winter bridge was complete on Saturday, and crossing was freely effected on Monday. The lower Ohio continues to rise, and from Louisville to Cairo, there cannot be less than twelve feet water, which is sufficient for all purposes. The CumfieTland river was falling yes terday, with sufficient water to allow the larger boats to pass over the shoals. Another rise was looked for. A Cairo dispatch of Wednesday night, to the Democrat, says: The Bowen brought a larre lot of fur" mture for Cairo, and several small lots of r ght She was full of peo ple aown ana back. From this it is very evident her colli sion didn't hurt her much. Her stem is no pipe stem. The Duke of Argyle passed down last night for New Orleans, the first -boat through from Cincinnati, for the Cres cent City. She was litteraily smothered down with freight in her hold, on lower deck, boiler -deck, hurrican and texas, with two bargesj one loaded with cattle and sheep the other with coal, and her cabins crowded with people, decidedly " a big thing."
