' ' We do not wish that anything said by "V us yesterday should be construed into disrespect to Mr. Raymond, or that we meant to insinuate any doubt of his ( ability- His was an able a well as an "elaborate" speech. We merely de sired to say, that when one hat no solid ground to stand on, it is an impossibility r to bear up heavily to posh an opponent to the wall, no matter how strong the individual may be. It may as well be added here that War Department cannot be indicted, . or rather it is cot considered expedient to indict it, collectively, and yet we ' should certainly , not eay that the rebel War Department had not been guilty of r treason; and if each individual compos ing it were tried and found guilty, it orel would not be improper to say the Ds"partment had been convicted and 1lt,J?oeeir guilty of treason.
