Have 'Gijon men beard any bowling
or hissing from leading Copperheads over
thia high-handed and sweeping expulsion
of Union men from the Kentucky Legis
lature? Some of those gentltmen were
elected by majorities of over 1,000 votes,
but that made no difference. They were
Union men, and that was a disqualifying
offense. Unionism has no place in the
Kentucky Legislature. The paesport to
favor in that honorable body is the pre
sentation of paroles from our Govern
ment which show thlit the bearers were
taken prisoners of war with arms in
their bands, which they were using
against the Government. Is,Kentucky
reconstructed so as to entitle ber to as
sociate with the rebel States? It looks so.

':An interesting letter has turned up,
written by President Johnson in the
spring of 1860 to Hon. G. W. Jones, of
Tennessee. ' The following passage, in
which the writer pays his respects to
some of the Democratic aspirants for
the Presidency, is particularly rich:
Jefferson Davis, of Mississippi, is
burning op with ambition, and is nearer
consumed by an internal beat than any
man I ever saw, except John Slidell, of
Louisiana. What Jeff. will do if be is
not nominated God only knows. Old
Buck seems for the candidates by turns
sometimes for one and then for
another, sand so on. I think he is always
for the weakest man, until be comes to
run up, and then he is for the next
weakest, honing that they will be strong
enough to defeat a nomination, and then
it will devolve on the Convention to
nominate him, yet he disbelieves it al:
the time. -
t Federal Officer isassinated by Mis
sissippi Rebels. ,
A gentleman who has just returned
from Pontotoc, Missiseippi, states that a
few nights since the agent of the Freed
ments Bureau &t that place was mur
dered in cold blood; while sleeping in his
bed, by a party of rebels. His body was
riddled with bullets in the most shocking
manner. The people of Pontotoc hated
the Bureau, intensely for interfering with
them in exercieing control over their
slaves, and are heartily glad over the
summary me,hod in which its agent has
been dismissed from service. We are
informed that the people of Mississippi
generally sympathize with them in their
hatred of the Bureau, and their oppres-,
Pion of freedmen. They denounce the
President in unmeasured terms for in
misting on the abolition of slavery, and
speak of the Federal Gevernment as a
despotism, to which they mast yield, for
the present, from necessity, and not from
inclination. Union men are compelled
to be as silent and cautious as they were
in 1861, and look as if they were the sob
jugated party. The secessionists treat
them with conterapt, and speak of them
on all occasions as " traitors to the
South."Nasheilis Times, Jan. 31sg.
ter The prize fighter, A. S. Kierolf,
of the Evansville Cburier, a rebel sheet,
being worsted in his attempt to write
down Mr. James EL McNeely, the able
and efficient Postmaster at Evansville,
a few days ago sooght a personal diffi
culty with Mr. Thayer, the editor of the
Journal, as a means of revenge, and
therefore addressed Mr. T. a note in
which blood and thunder were plainly
visible, but being informed by Mr.
Thayer, in a very courteous note that
be was responsible for the editoriale ap
pearing in the Journal, the ' prize
fighter, Kierolf, subsided, amidst a vol
ume of blackguardisms only known to
that class of chivalry.Shatoneetourn
