The Commercial says: The Stock market
exhibits rather more animation, with a
general improvement in prices. The Rail
road list is decidedly firm, but without any
important speculation or activity. Govern
ments are strong, but rather less active.
About a million and a half dollars of old
5-20's were returned by the two last steam
ers, bnt the price has strengthened not
withstanding. Ten-Forties sold at -S2J-i,
Seven-Thirties are firm, but less active at
yesterday's figures. .Money continues very
abundant, owing principally to the large
receipts or currency from th5 interior, arid
also to the moderate demand for lonns. De
mand loans are severally made at 5 J cent.
Outstanding six per cent, loans have been
mostly paid in and renewed at lower rates.
Discounts are moderately active. There is
a brisk demand for prime paper, which is
scarce.! Foreign Exchange shows a slight
reaction from the firmness of yestei-day.
Some of the leading drawers ask 108 for (i0
days' standing, while others otter their
bills at 107, which is about the views of
most buyers. Gold is in active demand
from importers: at the same time the bor
rowing demand for shorts is quite active,
Js per day be.ing generally paid for loans.

election shall be held in said city, in pur
suance of "An Act to amend the fortieth
clause of section thirty" of the charter -of

General Assembly of the State of Indiana.
The said election shall be held for the
purpose of ascertaining whether the quali
fied voters of said city do or do not desire
the Common Council aforesaid, for and on
behalf of said city, to subscribe for and
take stock in the Evansville and CincinX
nati Railroad Company to the amount of
ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOU
SAND DOLIARS. - ;: '
Said election shall be by ballot', and upon
the ticket of those who desire said stock to
be so taken, as aforesaid, shall be written
or printed the words " Take Stock," or
other words clearly expressing such desire;
and upon the ticket of those who do not
desire said stock to be so taken, as afore
said, shall be written or printed the words
"Take No Stock," or other equivalent
words.
In all other respects the said election
shall be conducted in the RAme manner,
and be governed by the same rules and
regulations, as the regular annual elec
tions for officers of said t lty, except, that no
one can vote at said election who shall not
have paid a city tax within twelve months
next before such e!fct?rin.
