H. B. Boyer, Observer, Weather Bureau. SVYS SERVICE WILL BE IMPROVED Vice President Fall's Promises for Street Car Bines. Mr. J. H. Fall, vice president of the Sa vannah, Thunderbolt and Isle of Hope Railway, will leave this morning for his home in Nashville, after several days spent in looking over the property, with President George Parsons, Inaugurating a few changes that it Is thought will serve to improve the street car service Savan nah has been getting for some time. Mr. Parsons will remain in the city probably several days longer. A force of hands was at work all of yesterday, making connections on Dale av enue with' the old Savannah and Isle of Rope track, which has been leased. Mr. Fall himself personally superintended the work during the day. It will be but a day or two, he said last night, before the rjstem will have become so adjusted by the double track on Dale avdnue, by the use of the leased road and by the switches that are being put in farther in town, as to admit of the ten-minute schedule being made that is promised. Last night a force of men was at work on the new switch on Henry street. It will not require much more time for com pletion. There are one or two other switches to be put in, and this equa.iza tion, Mr, Fall says, is What is necessary anti what has been wanted iu order to give the service what has been desired. The ten-minute schedule, he says, will readily follow from the better manage ment of cars and their schedules that al lowed. Mr. Fall says he is very anxious to see the city get the best possible service. Thai it lias not done so, he says, ail along lias been through no scarcity of cars. There have been plenty of cars, but he says to one not familiar with the manage ment of a street railway system it is hard ly clear that cars cannot be put on to ccirect difficulties. Schedules cannot be bettered by putting on more cars :f switches are not equalized. Instead of a system being Improved by more cars it bj hurt unless switches can be put in. People are always raising objections to switches, he says, and the road cannot run a double track everywhere. If It could the problem would be simplified. The speed cannot be Increased, for it is against the law for the cars to be run above a cer tain rate. Mr. Fall says he is desirous of seeing re street railway become a success. He is interested financially, and says the best "ay of making ihe system pay Is by giv- U S a good service. He will leave the city II the hope that this service will soon be baa As it is, he says, the investors in the Property have not received one cent on t.it-.r investment since it was made. They faith in it, however, and propose 10 'ry to make it pay by getting on the or hi tack and giving the sort of service iho people of Savannah want. A Sermon in Camp. In Camp Near Savannah, Nov. 12.—Ed itor Morning News: Feeling a deep sense fi f gratitude for all favors shown the 1 Irst Texas Regiment, I feel it my duty, 63 well as a great pleasure, to report the service Conducted by Chaplain Mason of the Forty-ninth lowa in our Y. M. C. A. lent on the evening of the 11th. The chap lain Is an extremely interesting speaker, and the tenor of his remarks bespoke a magnanimous man, possessing a gentle disposition and a noble hfart. His remarks were very earnest and made a deep Im pression on the mind and heart of the manly soldier boys present. The trend of |he chaplain’s remarks were toward the strife of life”; that Is, the strife of a oer fon Hying to Jive the right life; the life h at has a glorious reward after the he -1 ic battle against the current of life is nver, and also has its consoling rewards Is fore. That the First Texas boya highly appre ciate the sermons and visits of such men “ s Chaplain Macon Is evinced by their e’e mor and complimentary expressions.
