JAMES Constable H. B. MANVILLE REPUBLICAN RALLIES There will be pablio meetings of the voters for the purpose of dis cussing the issues of the cam paign, at the following places: Court House lu Lamar, Tuesday, Oct. 22 Pleasant Valley Scbool House, Oct. 23 lay Yalley School House, October 24 The republican candidates and others will address the meetings. Good music will be a feature of the occasions. Everybody Is Invited to Attend. Politics were a little late this year but seem to be attracting Borne atten tion just now. The Holly Ghieftain is determined to rnn A. E. Downer for county clerk. A1 says it wont work though. The Sparks says: “Not a word was said for the incumbent, Miss Exline, who by all the rnleß of poli tics was entitled to at least the cour tesy of a try for renomination.” The progressive spirit of the age it beginning to demand competence in pablio officials, and in this re spect the republican ticket is excep tionally strong from top to bottom. The new voters of the county should remember that it is necessary to register in order to vote. Look on the registration book at your poll ing place and if your name is not there you can have it placed on the book by appearing before the board at the next meeting, Tuesday, Octo ber 20. The democrats are raising their old cry about the republicans shut ting out the great north side. The people of that section are intelligent enough to realize that every elective office a north eider has ever held has come from the republican party. The democrats have never nominated one of their number except for trad ing purposes and this year is no ex ception to the rule. Nearly all the farmers of this county own stock, and if the rail roads kill any of it, as they are do ing all the time, there is no way to collect damages. If the last fusion legislature desired to help the peo ple against the corporations why did they refuse to pass the bill on this question asked by the stockmen of the state? We pass this question up to Judge Nowels’ convention. Talk about slapping the women in the face comes with very poor grace from the organ of a party that has just refused a renomination to a de serving young woman after nominat ing a man for a third term. No more direct slap was over given the women anywhere than when the democratic convention refused to even allow Miss Exline’s name to be presented for a renomination. The Sparks would do well to sweep up its own door yard. That is if it still has any weight in the democratic party. The Situaton Prowers county on national issues is one of tbe strongest republican counties of tne state, but on local is sues has been in tbe babit of going very much mixed. This year the largest and most representative con vention, which ever assembled in the county, met and from a large num ber of eligible candidates selected a ticket. Every man on that ticket has had experience either in the office for which he was selected or in the same line of work elsewhere. Each has proven himself folly com petent for the work he seeks, and comes to us endorsed and recom mended by the community in which he resides. There can be no valid reason why the republicans should not stand by the entire republican ticket this year and insure its suc cess. That the ticket will receive a large support from those democrats and populists who are disgusted with the rank convention of Judge Nowels last Wednesday is certain. County Notes. [From tho Holly Chieftain.J H. A. Dawley, a Rocky Ford hard ware merchant, was looking over oar town Saturday with a view to estab lishing a business here. • • • John Duncan was so elated over the large land sales that he raised the root of his residence making a suite of rooms up stairs. • * • Holly needs more buildings. Peo ple are here every day looking for a residence or a building ior establish ing some line of business. • * • Chief Engineer Berry had the derrick erected at the beet dump on Monday, and the haulers who have tho new wagon boxes and nets un load their beets in short order. • • • Miss Dora McCoy came down from Pueblo Tuesday where she has lived for about two years past. She will live with her sister, Mrs. J. S. Mo- Murtry, and attend sohool here dur ing the present term. • • • Last week was a record breaker in land sales. The A. V. S. B. & I. L. company sold thirty-eight 40 acre tracts in the country northwest of Holly. That means an additional beet acreage for next season of 380 acres. • * • [From tho Granada Times.] W. W. Jones has had the old frame coal sheds removed and is replacing them with a stone structure. • • • H. C. Jeffers will return from Ne braska in a few days, and we may ex pect work on the new elevator to soon commence. • • • The primary is over and the con vention a matter of history. All that remains is to get to work and elect the ticket. • • • Childs & Gregory, of Talmadge, Neb., have purchased the Mayfield lumber yard, and will take oharge pf it in a couple weeks. They ordered a large stock of lumber and then re turned to Nebraska to close up their business there. And still Granada is growing. Miss Pearl Ingham, of the north side, died last Friday morning. She has been sick for a long time with typhoid fever, and the disease was complicated on account of an aoci dent she met with at the Holly fair last year. The funeral took place last Saturday, the remains being laid to rest in the Holly cemetery. She has numerous friends in Granada. • • • J. N. Leslie has bought an interest in the stone building formerly used as a blacksmith shop, and will re model it for a meat market. He will build it highher, put on a new roof and glass front. When finished it will make a splendid place for his business. Improvements continue and Granada is rapidly pushing to the front. Stricken With Paralysis. Henderson Gnmett, of this place, was stricken with partial paralysis and com pletely lost the use of one arm and side. After being treated by an eminent phy sician for quite a while without relief my wife recommended Chamberlain’s Pain Balm, and after using two bottles of it he is almost entirel cured.—Geo.R. McDonald, Man, Logan county, W. Va Several other very remarkable cures of partial paralysis have been effected by the use of this liniment. It is most widely known, however, as a cure for rheumatism, sprains and bruises. For sale by I. H. Meyers, druggist. Election Notice.
