Sobsoriptiun Rates : Oae Year $1 BO Biz Mentha 75 Three Months BO Lamab, Colorado, April 20, 1004 Republican County Convention. Notice is hereby Riven that pursnant to the action of the republican county central committee u republican county convention for Prowers county will con vene at the court house in Lamur on Monday, April 25, at 10 am., to elect 0 delegates to the republican state convention at Denver on May 0, and G delegatee to the congressional conven tion at Glen wood Springs, and to trans act any other business thut may proper ly come before the convention. The basis for representation in said county convention from the various preciucts shall be as follows: Lamar No 1.... 9 North Side No G. .5 Holly No 2 14 North Side No 7. .7 Granada No 3.. 13 Lamar No 8. . 9 Lamar No 4.... 1G Amity No 9 9 Carlton No 5... G Primaries to select delegates to the county convention will be held at the regular voting places in the various pre cincts on Saturday, April 23 at the hour called by the precinct camuiitteeman. All republicans are invited to attend. Gkanuy Hillyer, Chairman. Geo. B. Merrill, Sec’y. PRIMARY ELECTIONS The committeemen in the threo La mar precincts have called the primaries for 2 p. m„ on April 23. On the North Side in Nos. G and 7 they will be held at 4 p. m. The Carlton primary will be held at 7:00 p. m. on April 23, by order of the committeeman. The repnblican party at Denver is at last getting together and this will mean the end of the factional tight as the party outside of Denver has been in harmonious accord for some time. Iu Missouri at least the Folks seem to outnumber the machine. Anyway, Mr. Folk is scooping all the delegates to the state convention and making all sorts of trouble for the machine. Boss Speer of Denver is a candi date for mayor. He is the tirst of the city bosses to attempt to elect himself to office, and the result will be watched with interest by the boss es of other large cities, The republicans of Prowers county will hold a county convention next Monday to elect delegates to the state convention. The republicans here are all enthusiastic supporters of President Roosevelt, and the con vention will undoubtedly be har monious in its endorsement of the president. The Colorado democrats, who have been for ten years telling ns that Cleveland and Hill were tools of the money power and Bryaa the peo ple’s friend, are now lining up against Bryan and in favor of Cleve land and Hill’s candidate, Parker The money power seems to look good to them all of a sudden. Parker and Hill The probability is that the New York democratic state convention to day will instruct for Parker, despite the opposition of Murphy, the Tam many chief. It is also probable that Hill will head the Parker delegation. As Parker has been indorsed by Cleveland and by many of the other so-called conservatives, he is likely to get the support of his state. With out that support he will have no standing of any consequence in the St. Louis convention. If he gets the solid support of New York in the approaching state gathering he will at once go to the front among the aspirants. But there are some things against his chances for getting two-thirds at St. Louis. One of these is the cer tainty that all the other aspirants will work against him. Another is that Hill’s championship will have an adverse effect on his fortunes. Hill undoubteely will be at the big convention. He has beeD one of his state’s delegates at large in many national assemblages. Although out of office, and likely to remain out, Hill is a person of a good deal of consequence in his state. He has the democracy throughout that com monwealth with him, except in the big city, where Tammany is in con trol. Many democrats, however, who might otherwise be disposed to ac cept Parker, will distrust him on ac count of Hill, Whether the report of the Hill Parker disagreement on platform be true or not, there is no doubt that the ex senator for the present at least has a good deal of influence over the judge. The judge is indebted to the ex-senator for bringing him forward as a presiden tial possibility. He would not have been mentioned in any promi nent way, had it not been for the advertising which Hill gave him in the governorship cauvass of 1902 and early in 1904. The judge, if he gets any standing in St. Louis, will owe much to Hill. This is so plain that everybody will understand it. Many democrats dislike Hill, and this feeliug will be extended to Parker if they think he will have any influence over the judge, pro viding the latter gets the nomination. Report has it that Hill will be in Parker’s cabinet if the latter gets elected. There is not the faintest probabilty that Parker could carry the country if he should win at St. Louis, but his connection with Hill is bound to raise up some powerful enemies for him in the democratic party. —Globe Democrat. Alfalfa Meal. On last Friday and Saturday Mr. Oswald Benninghover, of Nebraska, the proprietor of the alfalfa ineal patent rights, was in Lamar looking over the field with a view to the establishing of a plant for the manufacture of alfalfa meal here. Mr. Benninghover drove over the country and looked up the al falfu tields near town and gathered all possible information, and expressed him self as well pleased with the locality and the opportunities it offered for his busi nesß. He departed for his home in Ne braska, and the word received from him since hiß arrival there would indicate that he intends to put in a plant here if the railroad will make an equitable freight rate for his product.
