May 27 ( 1908 Commencement Week. On last Wednesday evening the op era house was crowded with friends of the eighth grade classes of the various schools of the western pari of Prowers county, and the youni folks acquitted themselves in a man ner to please aIL There was a largi class not only from l<umar, but from several of the other districts in this sectlou. On Thursday the class day exer cises of the high school were give; and there was the largest crowd evei assembled at the opera house on this occasion, and many were unable to get in at all. Alice Barnari “The Miller’s Wooing”.. .High Schoo On Friday evening the regular com mencement exercises were held anc another large audience was present The chief feature of this progran was the eloquent address of Dr. Rob erts on “True Education," which wrn highly appreciated by the audience. Excellent music was a feature o. all the exercises of the week. Memorial Services On last Sunday morning the oh soldiers of Lamar, both the blu« and the gray, formed in line in from of Judge Deeter’s office on Mai; street, and following the band march ed to the M. E. Church for memo rial services. The line has beer, much depleted by time and man} familiar faces were missiug.but the old spirit was there as strong at ever and they marched with a firm step that seems to have defied the ravages of time. At the church a special progran had been prepared and there was a union service of all the churches, a very large congregation being pres ent. Dr. Roberts of Denver Unlver slty delivered the sermon and all th< exercises were appropriate to thi day. Normal Institute. The teachers’ institute for this nor mal district will be held this year In I_amar beginning the first week ol June and lasting two weeks. Dr Frank H. H. Roberts of the Unlver slty of Denver will be the conductor and he will be assisted by Mrs. Ida Kruse McFarlane. Mrs. Elizabeth Me Mechen of the Wyman school in Den ver. and Prof. Chas. E. Griffin, ol the La Junta high school. There will be lectures by State Supt. Katherine Craig, Mrs. McFar lane. Dr. Roberts, Prof. F. E. Thomp son, Mr. Fred Burkett and Mr. W M. Wiley. Special railroad rates have been se cured from the Santa Fe from al points In Colorado, and a big atten dance Is expected. The program pre pared is very interesting and the con ductor. Dr. Roberts, and his assist ant, Mrs. McFarlane. were the unan tmous choice of the executive board on account of their successful work at the Rocky Ford institute. SANITARY NOTICE. Lamar, Colo., June 1, 1908. You are hereby notified that all premises owned, or occupied by you, or over which you exercise control as owner, agent or otherwise, situn ted within the limits of the Town of Lumar, Colorado, must be put in good sanitary order, by thoroughly clean ing all closets, cesspools, privies, etc. also by removing from said premiss' and from the alleys adjacent there to, all manure, garbage, filth and refuse matter of every description, on or before June 15, 1908. AH gar bage should be kept secured from flies until dry, and then burned. To avoid possible infection from water, all water used for drinking should be boiled. The co-operation of all citizens witl the Health officers will aid in keep ing the town free from contagious an infectious diseases. A failure on your part to conform fully to this requirement, and within the time specified, will subject you to the full penalty prescribed bv the ordinances of the said Town of La mar.
