The alumni banquet of the La mar high school will be held Satur day evening In the dining room at the Presbyterian church. Dr. J. H. Hardy haa returned from a short visit In Missouri. He and Mrs. Hardy will leave soon for an extended visit In that state. Miss Ann Buckley will leave the last of the week for Kansas City and other eastern points, where she will spend her Hummer vacation R. D. Nevlus left Saturday morn ing for southern California, where he will Join his family, after spend ing several weeks In Lamar attend ing to business. Granby Hlllyer was recalled to Denver tonight on account of the serious Illness of little J&ne, who last week was taken to Mercy hos pital for an operation. Mrs. Lei a Hlllyer returned on Thursday night from Dodge City, Kansas, where she has been visit ing for several weeks, and will spend the summer In Lamar. S. D. Church returned from Pueblo Sunday night, where he has been receiving instructions prepar atory to taking the examination for licensed embalmers June 2nd. The Central Hotel, formerly own ed and managed by H. A. Kerr, has been purchased by James Keener of near McCJave, who will take possession In the near future. George W. Rowe of Pueblo, the architect for the new high school building, arrived in Lamar Wednes day to inspect the work so far com pleted, and which he is well pleas ed with. Dr. PrankJln of the First Baptist church of Colorado Springs, who has recently returned from a trip through Africa, delivered a very interesting lecture on his travels, at the Baptist churrh Monday night On last Sunday evening Rev. Stearns of the Christian church delivered the baccalaureate sermon to the Senior class of the high school at the M. E. church. The church was crowded and the aud ience were granted a treat in hear ing one of the most able and inter esting sermons ever delivered In Lamar. There was a special pro. gram of music prepared for the occasion which was very pleasing also. O. M. Archer, who has been visiting his niece, Mrs. P. 8. Lynch, for some time, left for Denver yes terday. Day Marahal Daniels Is superin tending the Installation of the new boiler at the water plant and J. K. Householder Is filling his place. Mrs. M. E. Walker and daughter of Cobden, Illinois, arrived lb La mar Thursday morning for a visit with her daughter. Mra. Harry Wallace. Lieut. John Shipley of Pueblo haa been in the city eeveral daya visiting P. 8. Lynch. They were j In the same company during the war, 23rd lowa, and had not seen, each other tor 40 years. Mrs. C. M. Lee and Mrs. U. O. Henklns on last Saturday afternoon entertained a large number of their frlenda at the home of the former. A moat enjoyable after noon: waa spent by all. The county clerk has laaued the following marriage licenses the past week: On May 10, A. J. Austin and Mary M. Blair; on the 20th, Harry Bates and Olive Hut chinson; on 23rd, Jose Acosta and Professor Motnyer came down from Denver the first of the week and spent Monday and Tuesday wltl the school board in selecting a par tial list of the teachers for next year. There still remain* a few | vacancies which will be filled later. Merle C.. Ward has been promot ed to the position of manager of the Lamar Milling & Elevator Co's, elevator at SpearvUlc, Kansas, and be and Mrs. Ward will shortly move there. Their many friends here regret to lose them hut re joice in tbelr good luck. Miss Jna Rust and Mr. Pat Rog ers, both of Lamar, were married i last Thursday afternoon In Las An imas by Rev. Plngree, at the home of the former’s sister, Mrs. Judson, formerly of Lamar. Both young people are well known In Lamar, Miss Rust having taught school In this vicinity tor several years, and Mr. Roberts being a well known farmer. Burglars are reported to have broken Into the store of the Mc- Farland Trading Co. at Granada last night and robbed it of between S4OO and SSOO worth of goods. Under Sheriff Downing went down to assist In traLllng the robbers, but although a few of the stolen goods were found along the road no trace of the robbers have as yet been found.
