Bowles came down from La Junta the first of the week and spent several days in Lamar. L. F. Adams returned from Den ver today driving his big new Reo car, which he went up to purchase. Dr. A. P. Taylor, the dentist, Is again in charge of his office in the Cooper Mock after a vacation spent in Arizona. County Treasurre J. O. Stream is entertaining his Sunday School class with a picnic out at the lakes today. “Billy" Hamilton was down from Denver last week for sever al days attending the session o{ the commissioners. Assistant Postmaster A. A. Hag erman, who has been spending a short vacation in Baca county, re turned home today. The ladies of the Baptist church will give a bake sale at the Sil ver grocery store on Saturday of thla 'week. Drs. C. W. Russell and J. M. Kellogg went to Springfield this week as medical experts In the Labrlere trial. Mrs. Chas. Maxwell and children left the first of the week for San Diego, California* where they will spend the summer. C. H. Smith, an expert meat cut ter, from Florence, is now in charge of the meat department of Qbe W. H. Carl 6 Co. grocery. Senator A. N. Parrish left yes terday for Chicago .where he will attend the national convention as on# of Colorado'* delegates. Mrs. J. S. Hunter and daughter. Jr.,* return ed last week from the Boulder Un iversity and will spend the summer vacation with horns folks in Lamar. Sheriff John A. Simpson spent a day or two in Denver this week. Mrs. Ike Kelser left the first of the week to visit relatives in Missouri. The Lyric theatre has been closed after a lingering existence of about five months The picture pi ow business seems to be slack ening up at last. A number of our homesteaders are already taking advantage of the new three homestead law to advertise to make final proof on their land. Mrs. C. D. Ford of Denver and daughter, Mrs. U. P. Reed of Mon. tana, have been visiting the past week with Mrs. Ford’s daughters, Mrs. Paul Benning and Mrs. Tom Hover. W. F. MdCue left for Denver on Tuesday for a short visit. Judge W. E. Fee leaves today to attend the Chicago convention as alternates for Little Ben, the cross eyed follower of Bryan and Roose velt. Mr. and Mrs. Bain arrived here from California last week and are visiting with Mrs. Bain’s parsnts, Judge and Mrs. D. W. Robinson. They will locate here as Mr. Bain , has taken his old position at the factory. E Bartelt and family re turned on Sunday morning from California where they have xbeen I spending the time since the Doc tor's operation in Ajpril. Owing to criminal carelessness on the part of a physician in San Diego the Doctor has had a severe baok set and will have to undergo a sec ond operation in Denver In a few weeks. He is improving now and his many Lamar friends are hoping for his speedy recovery. Married— This evening. Mr. Ralph Householder and Mias Maude Mil ler, Judge W E. Fee officiating The happy couple left for a short honeymoon trip after which they I will be at home in Lamar. The I groom is one of the clerks at the I Lamar postoffice and the bride is a popular member of the young 'social circle of Lamar The hope 'of their many friends is that hap piness and prosperity will be with them In their married life. Married At the home of the i bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Beavers on Monday morning. Mr. Lee Strain of La Junta and Miss Coy Beavers of Lamar. The happy young couple left 011 No. 11 for La Junta where they will make their home. Both of the young people have been well known and popular iu the younger social circles of Lamar and there is a large circle of warm friends who extend the heartiest congratula tions and best wishes. Labriere Trial The trial of Zeno Labrlere was called in Baca county last week and lasted ten days. Judge Hunter call ed court each day at 8:00 a in., and usually a night session was held. Labrlere was charged with the murder of Nugent a few months since and he claimed self-defence. District Attorney A. W. McHendrie represented the state aud Granby Hlllyer and W. B. Gordon defend ed Labrlere. It was the hardest fought trial ever held In this sec tion of the state and resulted in a hung Jury. The report being that nine were for acquittal and three for conviction. Some Rain This section was visited by a number of heavy local rains the past week and in some sections by waterspouts. Heavy rains on Two Buttes creek filled the reservoir up to twenty-five feet of available water, and will enable the water users to secure quite a run of water A water spout caused a big flood in Clay creek which swept everything before It, washing out the Bourne dam as if it had been built of paper instead of heavy stone It barked the water up in to the measuring station of the city water supply and caused the run of muddy water which the city had for a few hours on Monday. Nearly the whole farming section has been given a good wetting at some time during the week. A Change in Business The Lamar Seed Company ha* changed Its management, F. H. Kei sty, who hae managed the business for five years successfully and sat isfactorily, having retired. The com pany will now be managed by T. J and F. W. Say ter. F. W.
