Miss Madge Creaghe left the first of the week to visit her sis ter in Greeley and will also visit in Denver. Dr. Felix Regnier of Regniei Baca county, was in Lamar todaj enroute home from the Kansas City stock show. Clarence and Clyde James went to Fort Collins this week to re sume their studies at the Agricul tural college after a short visit at home. Mrs. Jane B. Dickinson after a visit in Das Vegas, has returned to Lamar and will spend the winter here with her daughter, Mrs. L. F. Adams. Mrs. C. C. Wyatt has purchased Dr. Spicer's interest in the Lamax hospital and has succeeded Mrs. Da vis in the management of the in stitution. Guy B. Huntington of Los Ange les has been in Lamar several days this week. He is on his way home from Minnesota. E. B. Leatherman went up to Col orado Springs on Saturday ami re. mained over Suuduy. He reports many dairymen there as ready to move down here us soon as the mill factory opens. Charley Rand, the Kansas Cit> horse buyer had a successful trip to the valley the past week, but cut it short so he could get back in time for the big world's series. Business he said could wait. The new store front for the By ars & Fox store room in the First National Bank block is about com. pleted and will make a splendid show place for athe artistic display of goods by the enterprising man ager of this dry goods store. Last Saturday night the Byron Troubadours gave a fine inusicaJ entertainment at the high school auditorium for the benefit of the band and the audience was highl> pleased. This is a high class musi cal organization and always gives a splendid program. Miss Josie Silver entertained about thirty-five of her lady friends Tuesday afternoon in hon or of Mrs. John Y. Brown. The home on south Main street was beautifully decorated with flowers for the occasion and the arternooon was pleasantly passed playing Five Hundred. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostesßs. The many Lamar friends of Guj Hughes, who now resides in Sber. idan, Wyoming, wore grieved to hear of his sudden death there last Saturday. He died of heart fail ure while at work on top of a pole carrying electric wires. Guy lived with hie parents In Damar* several years before the family moved to Sheridan and was well liked here. M. Ds. Meet The Prowers County Medical As sociation met in Damar the first of th week and elected officers for the ensuing yar. Dr. Friend is the new president. Dr. Sheller vice president, and Dr. Spicer, secretary. Enjoyable Evening The Odd Fellows and Rebeccas gave a box supper and musical en tertainment at the temple Tuesday evning and there was a large turn out of members and their friends. Jed Downing proved the nerviest bidder with Tom Sayier as runner up. A most pleasing musical pro. gram wea given and all present passed a delightful evening. Rummage Sale The ladies of the M. E. Aid So ciety will hold a rummage sale in, the Markham building on south Main street Friday aud Saturday of next week, Oct. 17 and 18. They will have a large assortment of ar ticles for sale, including clothing, shoes, furniture, etc. The ladies will serve hot lunch and coffee on both days. Factory Building With the walls of the Helvetia factory building' rapidly rising now visitors can begin to appreciate the size and magnitude of the plant. The substantial character of all tiie.work,also strikes the eyes of all who see it. The big building is now, up where its bulk can be judg. ed is much larger than most any of our citizens even expected and is having the effect of interesting many in the industry who have been skeptical. The site of the factory looks almost like a city in itself. Got His Man Sheriff Simpeon went to Pueblo yesterday and brought back Al turn, the Mexican, who is the ring leader of the gang which committ ed several robberies in this coun ty lately. The prisoner confessed to Die Granada and Damar depot rob beries, but says that cue of the others under arrest assisted him in the depot robbery. He even told of hiding the money but says they dug it up later and spent It. The three bold burglaries are now com pletely cleared up by our enterpris ing sheriff’s force aud the goods practically all accounted for. The County Court With one of the langest dockets ever before any court in this coun ty Judge Thoman has been kept busy day and night this week. Miss Swift’s Concert On Tuesday evening at the Pres byterian church Miss Stella Swift gave a splendid concert, assisted by Mrs. Faurote, Mrs. Wooden and Messrs. Ounuingham, Bannister Flint and Rose. Miss Swift is a highly accomplished musician und all her numbers were enthusiastical ly encored. The vocal numbers by Mrs. Faurote and those by Mr. Ban nister and the quartet were very pleasing und the whole program made a musical treat which is rarely heard in a place the size of Lamar and was greatly enjoyed by those fortunate enough to bo present.
