DELTA, - - COLODADO. Death Of L. C. McGrew. Lester Clarke McGrew died at his home in Delta August 17 at 10 p. m. He was bom in Sheridan, lowa, Dec. 17, 180*1, later moving to Omaha, Neb., where he was married Nov. 10, 1887. From Omaha he went to Denver and in 1894 came to Delta where he has since resided. He leaves a wife, two sons and two daughters to mourn their irre pairable loss. Thus, in brief, is the life history of one of Delta’s best known and foremost citizens, a man who was a dynamo of energy and thrift and who championed every move looking to the advancement of the community in which he resided. The esteem in which Mr. McGrew was held by the people of Delta, as well as throughout the county, was forcibly illustrated by the large concourse of friends that followed the mortal re mains to their final resting place in the Delta cemetery. It was one of the larg est funerals ever held here, the line of carriages being almost a mile in length. Services were held at the family home Sunday at 2 p. m., conducted by Dr. Frothingham, assisted by Dr. Darley. Mrs. Seaton, Welland JefTers, Joseph Pregent and Mr. Remington compos ed a quartet that rendered special music. Dr. Darley read the scripture lesson and offered prayer, after which Dr. Frothingham delivered brief but beautiful remarks, bearing on the life and services of the deceased and the hepe of all for immortal life beyond the grave. He sj>oke words of consolation to the sorrowing family and commend ed them to the God of us all, who is always the greatest comforter. Following these services the l»ody was removed to the hearse, members of Mesa lodge No 84 Knights of Pythias acting as escort, they being proceed’d by members * f the Woodmen of the World, which organization also attend ed in a IhxJv. At the grave the Knights of Pythias burial service was carried out and all that was mortal of a good citizen, kind husband and loving father was consigned to the earth from w hence it came. The casket was almost completely covered with beautiful floral offerings, tendered in loving memory by different orders end numerous friends. Card of Thanks. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to all who kindly gave us help and sympathy during the illness and affliction which has visited us ami for tl e many beautiful floral offerings. Kspecially would we make mention of our neighbors at Kckert who gave such unselfish aid in caring for our crops on the ranch. Yours sincerely, Mrs. Lol'isk McGkkw anp Family. Ktta Jordan. Two Divorces Granted. The divorce case of Archie 1). Brown vs. Ivii L. Brown was heard in Judge Dickerson's court the first of the week. I’lnintifT brought suit on the grounds of desertion and defendant brought in a cross complaint charging non-support and habitual drunkenness. The jury found in favor of plaintiff and divorce was granted. Judge Dickerson award ed the children, three in number, to the defendent and granted her $25.(X> per month alimony for their support. The case was warmly contested and the jury deliberated two and a half hours before arriving at a verdict. Plaintiff bails from Ouray and was represented by* Attorney Cassady of that city. Steph an & Vincent appeared for defendant. Another divorce was grunted by the county court this week, the case being entitled Clara E. Daughenbaugh vs. Wm. I*. Daughenbaugh. Plaintiff, who hails from Paonia, was granted the custody of the two children. Defend ant did not appear. Plenty of money to loan, cheap. Ab stracts will be furnished. Fiikd N. Dickkkhon. i New Real Estate Firm. The land and emigration firm of Fitzgerald, Dermody & Co., of Omaha, Nebraska, will open an office in Delta. They are one of the big land and emi gration firms of the country with branches at Colby and Goodland, Kan sas and Burlington, Colo. F. G. Myers, a member of the firm, is alre *dy here accompanied by his wife. They have rented the J. Mason Lee property on Garnet Mesa and will establish their permanent home in Delta. Mr. Myers 1 will have charge of the firm’s business in the Uneompahgre valley and in choosing Delta as the proper place for headquarters he put in force a rapidly growing conviction that once the Gunni son tunnel is completed, here will be the center of the greatest growth and development. Another reason for choosing Delta is its close proximity to the great Hotchkiss, Paonia, Cedaredge and Eckert fruit districts. The firm represented by Mr. Myers is a big ad vertiser and spend money with a lavish hand in making eastern people ac quainted with the districts it is pushing. Delta is glad to welcome the new firm and its good looking representative and trusts that many easterners will be brought here to add their monev and energy toward the development of this great country through its instru mentality. Superintendent Harding Arrives. Prof. G. L. Harding, of Home City, Indiana, and who has been selected by the school board as superintendent of Delta's public schools for the ensuing year, came to Delta the first of the week and has been busily engaged in perfecting preliminary arrangements for the opening of the schools. Prof. Harding is no tenderfoot, having been a resident of Colorado thirteen years, ten of which were spent in Boulder county, four years as su|H?rintendent of the Longmont schools and six years as county superintendent. He served three years as principal of the schools at Breckonridge. The professor grad uated from the University of Michigan in the class of 1574.
