experiment for it is known that
fine tobacco can bo grown in this
county Some of them will put in

THE farmers of Wolfe can do no
better than to emulate the exam
ple of these enterprising farmers of
Estill county Indeed raising to
bacco in Wolfe and Morgan coun
ties is no longer an experiment
as time and again it has been
demonstrated that we grow a finer
quality of tobacco than the finest
grown in the bluegrass region A
few years since the editor of this
paper sent a gentleman in Fayette I
a few twists of tobacco grown on
Little Cauey by a man named
Gassel and notwithstanding the
fact that the gentleman to whom
it was sent had 00000 pounds in
1 his barn wrote us to send him 10
pounds at once that it was the best
flavored and finest fibred tobacco
he had seen anywhere Under the
supervision of a Mr Hord J T
Day a few years since raised a crop
n of tobacco which was pronounced
by experts to be exceptionally fine
And two years since a Mr Creek
baum living on Grassy sold his
entire crop at 17 cents all around
Now whilo our tobacco does not
have the same weight as that
grown in the bluegrass all men
who are conversant with this com
modity say that the finer quality
wo grow will more than make the
difference in the selling price It
is yet ample time to sow seed and
get a good plant bedand we should
like very much for our farmers to
get some of the good money which
will be paid for tobacco next fall
There is not much more labor in
growing tobacco than what is re >
quired to grow a good crop of corn
But admitting that there is the
amount realized is so much more
that it will well pay for the extra
exertion Try a small acreage
anyhow and you will pot regret

One of the Lexington ladies wrote
to the publishers of the magazine
she had subscribed for and received
for answer that the young man
was a swindler and they had no
agents on the road We worn our
readers to be on the lookout for

not tell the truth If you did you
could not live your newspaper
would be a failure The editor re
plied You are right and the min

critic The pupils especially in
the higher grades are allowed to
spend the nights during the week
in various amusements which dis
tract their minds from sclno
work and the less of sleep in
apacitates them for good work
