pointed local agent for the
Shakespeare gold mining com
pany, who are developing a
property at Webbwood, Can.,
that gives special promise of re
tarns onjnvestinent. A number
of Bemidji qeople are already in
terested and an effort will be
made to push the sale of stock in
this vicinity.
Veterinary Locates.
Dr. Warninger, of Fosston, arrived
in the ci^y yesterday to. look Bemidji
over with a view to locating' and is so
well pleased that he has decided to
remain. The doctor is one of the best
veterinary surgeons in this section

midji. He intends to build office
apartments somewhere convenient to
the center of the city as soon as he
cari. His family will not be removed
here for the present. Dr. Warnihger
owns the celebrated pacing stallion

Shoemaker to Speak.
President Shoemaker, of the St.
Cloud Normal school delivers an ad
dress at Cass Lake tonight. The pro
fessors visit to Cass Lalje will be the
occasion of a educational meeting
which will be quite largely attended
from this section. The city schools
were closed this afternoon to allow
the teachers from this city to attend.
They were accomparijLed down by Prof.
Edmunds and W A. Casler, as re
presentatives of the' local board of
education.
Wreck Delays Traffic.
A freight wreck on the Great North
ern about a mile west of. Mcintosh
about nine o'clock last night tied up
traffic for several hours- A freight
train broke in two coming down one
of the grades and the two sections
collided. Six cars of wheat and a car
of poles delayed made a very effective
blockade. The wrecking crew came
on from Carman and had cleared the
line at nine o'clock this morning. The
east hound night passenger went
through Bemidji about 10:30 this
morning.
Taken to Poor Farm.
Fred Johnson, a laboring man,
who was taken ill at Jens Han
son's place was taken to the
county poor farm yesterday.
He is suffering from some aggra
vated form of throat"trouble and
has neither relatives or friends in
this vicinity.
Irvine's Camps Quarantined.
Dr. Blakeslee returned this morning
from a trip to the L A. Irvine camps
north of-Nortnorae. He closed two
Camps under quarantine. One hun
dred and seventy men were affected.
^fhe camps are only nineteen miles dis
tant from the Canadian line and the

Blackdnck Open.
Reports irom Blackduck received in
this city are to the effect that wide
open gambling has been-resumed. The
town was closed Monday by Mayor
S&olfe, but the existing differences were
adjusted Wednesday.

Dunham Arrested.
R- V. Dunham, the absent minded
millionaire, who left the Markham
hotel yesterday without, paving a
board bill, was arrested at Uass Lftke
last night, brought back to Bemidii
and was to have a hearing this after
noon.
Goes to New Paynesville.
F. A. Kennedy, who recently re
signed his position at the First Na
tional bank, leaves the first of next
month for New Paynesville, where he
will have charge of the State Bank of
Paynesville.
Bad Spear's Predicament.
Bud Spear, a full blood Chippewa
Indian from the Red Lake reservation,
was picked up in a badly intoxicated
condition near the Bodega saloon last
night. He had suffered from cold and
exposure and when in police court
this morning was quite ill. He paid a
fine of $5 and costs.
Teachers' Examinations.

Two Paid Fines.
There were two offenders against
the peace and dignity of Bemidji in
Judge Reynold's cou^t this morning.
Both were charged with drunkenness
and both paid tines. The court handed
out the usual temperance lecture.
Stock Sold Yesterday.
The bankrupt stock of Jeston Bros
at Rosby was sold yesterday. It was
bought by James Donnelly of West
Superior, who bid the hiirh figure.

the stock will be shipped out of town.
