In the development of the northwest during the past two or three years nothing has been so significant as the growth of manufacturing.. There is scarce a town in the entire northwest which wjthin two years has not established a creamery, a brick yard, a woolen mill, a tlax fibre mill, a tile fac tory or some similar enterprise. Almost every town and village has made its beginning in a small way in manufacturing. The sum total of all those small enter prises amounts to a very great deal and gives the northwest a very satisfactory start in manufacturing. There is every reason to be lieve that the northwest will at no very distant day become one of the chief manufacturing dis tricts of the new world. No other section of the country is more favorably situated or bet ter supplied with transportation facilities while the raw material for scores of manufacturing en terprises is here to be found in almost unlimited quantities. The growth of the past few years in manufacturing has been well worth while and we are con fident that it is but an earnest of a magnificent development. There is a popular idea that if candidates are not nominated from the doubtful states there is danger of failure, dates which have made the best run have been those who have been nominated because of their special fitness without regard to the state from which they hailed. Bryan, the man, came nearer to being elected in JH96 than could have any man from one of the big .doubtfuIs.States. The truth is that a strong outsider will get more votes in a doubtful state than a mediocre favorite son. HE Duluth News Tribune wants Charlie Towne to run for president on the democratic ticket. All kinds of railroads are point ing to the Roseau country, but the people up that way have de termined to quit wearying for them and the Rainy River Region declares that all they want now is to cut out a path to Red Lake so that they may chase their ducks down|here to drink.
