The war of extermination now being waged against labor unions in the Cripple Creek district is a direct result of an activity on the part of organized labor that has become unsufferable. Through the indiscretion of leaders whose only hope of occupation is to fo- ment-troub le between the ema ployer and the employe labor or- ganizations have in numerous in- stances become practical high- waymen and murderers. Th people of this country cannot en- dure this sort of thing. The death knell of labor unionism has been sounded in the Cripple Creek dis- trict and if labor organizations persist in so far overreaching their rightful powers the same fate will overtake th em in other parts of the country. Everlastingly A It. The success of Cass Lake in at- tracting visitors is an example of what keeping-everlastingly-at-it means to a town and there is a whole lot in the energy, hustle and persistence of Cass Lake, which Bemidji might profitably imitate. Fo beauty of location, convenience of access and abund- ance of sport there is no spot in northern Minnesota which can rival Bemidji and we are fortun- ately beginning to appreciate the fact. All that remains is to let others know it too and Bemidji will attract a steady stream of summer guests and will become one of the principal summer re- sorts of the northwest. There is small virtue in hiding our light under a bushel keeping-everlast- ing-at advertising our advantages is bound to produce substantial and everinci'easing results. WHILE the Busines Men' Club of Bemidji has thus far been quite successful, its permanent usefulness to the city depends upon the support accorded it by the individual buisness men inmeetings the way of an active interest in the meetings of the club and in the various projects undertaken by the club. A the last meeting of the directors of the club there were a number of business men prese nt in addition to the direc- torate and their presence and counsel helped much in discus- sion and decision. If the Pioneer understands the matter aright the club welcomes and solicits the presence of any and all busi- ness men of the city at any of its meetings. THE revulsion of the north count] from populism is well illustrated by the results of the damocraticprimaries held in Polk county this week. Polk county was for four years the hot bed of populism in northern Minnesota, many of its townships-casting .a solid populist- vote year after year. Bu Polk county is now swinging far toward conserva- tism and the democratic pri- maries of tips week resulted in an overwhelming defeat for the Hearst movement notwithstand- ing the tremendous activity dis- played by the Hearst supporters. THE Colorado mining strikes have already cost the striking twenty two and one half million dollars. Th miners are in need of a Moses to lead them to higher wages by a less expen- sive way. J. O. HARRIS. The candidacy of tnunds of this city, i POLITICS A. LI. Hazen is active in his can didacy for sheriff. The local Collins forces are nothing daunted at the announce ment that a rousing Dunn meet ing is to be held Tuesday night and promise to retaliate with a Collins meeting which will be ad dressed quite as ably on the is sues at sta ke as the Dunn meet ing will be. Prof. Ed- is definitely announced for county superin tendent of schools. Mr Ed munds is at present in Duluth and will not start an active campaign until after his summer vacation has been concluded. He will have strong following of warm per sonal friends in Bemidji and his capability cannot be questioned. John Wilmann, who is a candi date for the Republican nomina tion for county auditor is doing a very great deal of work in his own behalf. Mr Wilmand is making a thorough canvass. Auditor Sylvester's friends are active in his interests and promise to get sufficiently busy to accomplish his nomination without any trouble. The Dunn meeting to be held in this city next Tuesday night is expected to draw out a large attendance from this immediate section of the county. Th or ganization of the Beltrami county Dunn club will be completed. Hon. Darius P. Reese, who is to address the meeting is one of the ablest speakers in the state and has a wide experience in state politics which makes him an ex ceptionally interesting speaker at this time. I asked him if it was not Chamber lain's Colic, Cholera and Diar rhoea Remedy htyused as I had good reason to rfvo it was, and he would not say under oath that it was not.
