HE Northwest pro ediiors of Minne.sota will take their out ing at Winnipeg, Manitooa this year, takinsr advantage of thp fact that Winnipeg is about to hold its big fair and exposition. The trip will be taken over th new Soo line to Winnipeg and there will be stops at Alexandria and Detroit with three days at Winnipeg. These annual trips taken by the editors of the state are widely educative. As a result of this one Minnesota summer resorts will be most liberally advertised and the service which the Sio renders will be very little for the advertising it will get. The edi tors will do Winnipeg justice, also, but Minnesota editors are intensely loyal and when they return to their homes and tat up the quill once more their fore most thought will be to set forth the notable advantages which they have observed in their own state. The state editoral excur sion will be held later in the year and will pi I ably be to some southern point. The Hav Crop. NORTH central Minnesota:is greatly interested in the hay crop. It produces thousands of tons each year and it consumes tens of thousands. When we consider that the excessive rairs of the spring and summer and the flooding of till low lands all along the Mississippi and its tributary streams we shall real ize that the damage done will cost this country a great deal of money before another season. The July flood along the Missis sippi, it is claimed, will make it impossible to harvest the hay crop in a large percentage of the meadows. Good first eicps have already been taken in some locali ties but the second crop threa tens to be far below the average. It is claimed with show of reason that the comparative scarcity of hay throughout this section will materially affect the price of all dairy products the coming win ter and higher prices are confi dently looked for. Why Not Everybody? HE teac.hers in the public schools of the United States think that if Mr. Carnegie can give ten millions to the college professors he ought to provide, aiso, a pension for their old age. And this leads to the inquiry, why should not everybody be pensioned? Does not the world owe everybody a living and should it not ensure everybody a comfortable living when old age is reached and man and' woman are no longer able to win their bread b.y the sweat of the browy Probably we shall be a good deal nearer the millinium than we are now when that day dawns but it is a noble ideal for those who give their best efforts for econo mic reform to have in mind. When the day arrives there will be no Carnegies," no Rockefellers. pl^nppp |-ve if I aoi J-hn Rockefeller's father, I don't want any of his money. Parker's Prairie negotiates a loan of $16,000 for the benefit of its boys and girls. Dominion Day beat the Fourth out about twenty four hours but the latter made the most noise. Not a single north country newspapers got scooped on the Fourth of July rain storm story! There are as many champion ship ball teams in Minnesota as there are Smiths in the United States. If the Great Northern ever builds to Roseau or the Crooks tou league team wins a game, there will be hope for the Kooch iching dam. The Warroad Plaindealer and the Owatonna Journal want to give preference in education to the boy. The Plaindealer and the Journal are too modest. Years and years ago in India they used tothrow the girls into the Ganges. Brother Boen in his Fergus Falls Globe devotes a column of editorial to the circus. He thinks it is a good thing but that social ism would reduce the exorbitant price of reserved seat tickets from fifty cents to twenty five. Barnesville Record Review: On the front page of its current issue the Moorhead Citizen has quite a virulent article describing the disappearance of P. August Eckluhd, the erstwhile secretary of the Clay County Land Co., and on the local page the Cinzen ed itors tells us that "the Clay County Land Company has just received another fine lot of adver tising matter that is the best ever."
