COLERAINE STAR WILL HAVE
TO BE WATCHED CLOSELY
It has been learned that Coleraine
is to have a "star player" in its line
up for Saturday's game. Dudley
Kane, a track and field star, is again
in Coleraine's lineup this year. Kane
has shown up well in all the games
thus far this season and, no doubt,
will be the best ground gainer for
the Coleraine eleven
Mr. Kane entered the interschol
astic meet at the University of Min
nesota last spring and took first place
in two events
The Bemidji eleven went through
another hard scrimmage again last
evening and is working hard for the
coming game Bemidji's chance for
a victory look better now that My
ron Plummer and Frank Phibbs are
back in the game Plummer is a fast
backfield man and will be used at
the quarterback position in Satur
day's game Frank Phibbs will also
be able to play Saturday and will
hold down left end Plummer and
Phibbs showed up exceedingly well
in the Akeley game and with these
men added to the regular lineup a
fast exhibition of football is looked
for next Saturday

What man has learned by dint of
thought and experiment some of the
lower animals appear to know through
instinct. An instance is furnished by
what is called the "spiral swimming"
of certain organisms, such as the
spherical shaped volvox and several
elongated infusorians. As these re
volve about the axis of progression in
the manner of a projectile fired from
a rifled gun the consequence is that
they are able to travel in a straight
line, as they could not do otherwise,
revolution compensating with ab
precision for any tendency to
deviate from a straight course. With
out such a device many of these
minute creatures would simply de
scribe circles, making no forward prog
ress.
Creation of a Knight.
The ceremonies at the creation of a
knight have been various. The princi
were a box on the ear and a stroke
with a sword on the shoulder. John of
Salisbury tells us the blow with the
naked fist was in use among the an
cient Normans. By this it was that
William the Conqueror conferred the
