Besides the Bemidji and Park Rapids delegations were several vis itors from surrounding cities, towns and villages, all coming in gaily flag bedecked cars. Over 100 Served. Dinner was served to over 100, the spacious dining room of Doug las Lodge being prettily decorated in the flags of the United States and Great Britain. The formal opening of the lodge has not yet taken place and Manager McMahon had not re cruited his corps of waitresses for the season, but the breach was ad mirably filled by the domestic sci ence class of the Park Rapids high school and the young ladies proved themselves fully equal to the occasion, evidencing that they, too, are a valuable adjunct in boosting for their home city, and there were many compliments passed unheard by the fair embryo waitresses. Mrs. Byers, wife of Assistant Manager Byers, had charge of the serving of the excellent menu. Toasts to Allies. A unique feature of the dinner was near its close when Gen eral Manager Clarkson of the Jef ferson Highway arose and proposed a toast to the British Empire The diners arose and drank to the toast with pure spring water. In returning the compliment, Pre mier Norris arose and proposed a toast "To the president of the United States," and again the dining room was filled with standing banqueters who drank to the sentiment. Dinner over, the concourse visited an hour or so informally and grad ually left for their homes, Mr. Ly can remaining with the tourists un til a late hour. Clarkson ibises Road. In speaking of the trip thus far, Mr. Clarkson stated that the high way between Bemidji and the .State park was the best stretch they had encountered since leaving Winnipeg, and he expressed himself as being much pleased over the work done and effort to maintain the road in good condition.
