Good hay is worth only sl6 per ton in Pueblo, while here it sells for $l4O. The N. Y. Graphic of the Ist re print’s the Leadville Herald's map of the Gunnison country. One thousand American ministers are in Europe getting ready to open their sermons by remarking : "When I was in—” - Texas society is agitated over the question of whether the groom at a wedding should wear his revolvei belt outside or inside of his dress coal. Last Monday Judge Smith opened the regular quarterly term of count' court in Gunnison. He has abou. thirty cases on the docket to dis pose of. Kansas school teacher: “ Where does the grain go to?” “Into the hopper.” “ What hopper?” “Grass hopper,” triumphantly 'exclaims a •cholar. “What did the' Puritans”come to this country for?” asked a Massa- teacher of his a class. “Tc worship in their own way and mak' other people do the same,” was the reply. ■— » Gunnison merchants' are laying i: heavy stocks of merchandise for the winter. This is 'a wise move instead of waiting until three or four feet o! snow is on*the ground and then hav ing to pay four times the regulai freight.— Denver Review. We understand that the new court house in Gunnison is very near com pleted, and in a few weeks the conn } officials wilLbe able to] occupy theii new quarters. The building is a two story brick, and is a great credit tc Gunnison county. The miners in the different camp throughout Colorado should all tak steps to have their claims surveyed anc patented. By doing this, much litiga tion, which is always a drawback to wards making sales or developin' property, will thus be avoided. The mines around Ruby, Gothi. Virginia City and Pitkin, with mor development will prove to be as ric!. as any in Colorado. The local paper, of those places arc doing noble work in giving facts and legitimate minim news instead of indulging in highly colored statements about the advan tages of any particular locality.—Den ver Mining Review. A novel mining experiment is abou to be made in the Upper Missouri. Mr. Lissner, an old California miner, has a dredging machine similar tc those ased in mining river beds ii Calitornia, and proposes at an earh day to erect the machine in the bed of the Missouri river, near Edmon ston’s perry, for the purpose of pros pecting and mining. It has long " teen believtd that the beds of tlv. Missouri and other large rivers ii. Montana contained rich mines, pe - haps richer than any mines heretofore opened in the territory. Mr. Lissner now proposes to test that qu ‘Stion. His machinery is ample for the pur pose. We understand that the tube is capable of lifting from 300 to 400 tons of dirt in ten hours. The dirt is t ken from the bed of the stream by what is known as the vacuum process and then washed in a boat. K, J. NcXXTISE, South Arkaaaaa, Colo. / A. J: KSAX, Gumifeuit, Colo.
