Here futures also save way sharply In sympathy, both May and July declining 14c and finished at the low point of the day. It Is true some whest is killed, but only that was sowed carelessly snd by shiftless peo ple. We think Sumner county will equal last year's crop or better. A letter from W. H. Giles, of Abilene, Kas., writ ten to W. Vi. Cowen. says: "Conditions have im proved here, and I now look for three-fourths of our average crop. This means, I think, we will have as many bushels of wheat In this country as last year. The acreage Is about 10 per cent larger. Oats are generally In the ground and up. There will be a large racreage all over the country of oats and corn. The weather Is fine." Writing to Ferine Bros., Carter & Moodle, of Well ington, Kas., say: "There Is nothing so far to change our opinion regarding the wheat prospects. The wheat Is looking better, but it Is time. We think wa will be exceedingly lucky If we hsrvest 50 per cent of the wheat sown last fall. Wheat is growing nicely and the weeds are coming right along with it. Some fields look fine,, while right next to them are others where the wheat is very thin and short and weedy.' Among the more Important changes In the avail able supply of wheat the past week, shown by Bradstreet's and not otherwise reported, were de creases of 268,000 bushels at Chicago private ele vators, 268,000 bushels at Manitoba storage points, 200.000 bushels st Northwestern Interior elevators, 200,000 at Gslveston. 156,000 bushels at Portland and 6.000 bushels at New Orleans. Pope, of Chicago, who Is Just back from Cali fornia, says: "I found -Kansas, as I came through it, looking better than 1 expected to find It after reading newspaper crop descripUons. They seem to think they will have 40.000,000 bushels of whest It no new bad conditions occur. Of course that Is barring hot winds. I don't see where they get the expecta tion of a great crop for California. I should say not more than 75 per cent of a crop out there. They need rain badly already." Of the exports from the United States for the week ending April 14, United Kingdom points got 715.938 bushels of wheat, 9(7,583 bushels of corn, 78.801 barrels of flour: French ports, 9,300 bushels of wheat, 141,070 bushels of corn: other Continental points. 339.000 bushels of wheat; 1,106,304 bushels of corn, 46,595 bsrrels of flour; Asia. 31.308 barrels of flour: South America 1.970 barrels of flour: Oceanlca, E.S00 barrels of flour; all other points, 1.6S5 bushels of corn snd 12,291 barrels of flour. The movement, however, was largely local, prices still being too high for the outside trade, the market here lonUnulng to be the, highest among tho leading grain centers of the West. The want of stocks hero and the fact that country holders refused to let go of their oats to any extent until present high prices were reached makes holders rather Independent and enabling them to maintain present good prices. TOPEKA. April 23. (Special.) The various West ern railroads expect to movo more stock trcm the South to Northern feeding grounds this spring than they eer did In any previous year. The movement has already commenced, and It is likely that within a short time the Western roads wilt be taxed to their utmost to handle the stock, and a shortage of cars is expected. Stock from New Mexico snd Arizona la al ready moving to Montana, and within a couple of weeks cattle from New Mexico, Texas and other points will be shipped to the Kansas feeding grounds. The movement to the North will continue through June, and the West win without doubt be a network of moving stock trains. One. of the largest feeding grounds in Kansas is In Wabaunsee county In the vicinity of Alma and Esk ridge. Last year from 25.000 to 35,000 head of cattle were fed In transit on these feeding-grounds. This year It is likely that the number fed on these grating grounds will far exceed that of last year.
